Really good time to consider putting your SSH Keys on a hardware security key, such as a Yubikey.
Socket@SocketSecurity

@ShadowyZephyr Yeah that's my main critique as well, he seems to implicitly count IQ as the objectively correct measure that other tests must be measured against (and maybe he justifies this further in)

@toasterlighting Well I just don't like the framing of g being the default, when GCSE scores might or might not be more relevant to the thing you actually want to measure. g is only useful as long as you don't have a metric that better correlates with whatever you want to measure!

Man I don't like to defend Cremieux because I think "race realists" are usually racists and often misapply g, but he wrote an article about this and this guys only response is to look away and la la la. These guys are so clearly ideological. They're not even trying to hide it.
khalid@phantom_khalid

remember when cremieux was shown how somali schoolchildren in london have started outperforming white children in mathematics despite their worse socioeconomic background and he just kind of started malfunctioning and babbling about mathematics not being "g-loaded"

@ShadowyZephyr I could believe the full article is compelling but without hearing what he thinks is the cause for the psychometric bias and why, it's not on its own compelling

@toasterlighting It is, but the main point is made before the paywall and he doesn't even address that point. Just gives a stupid argument about 70 IQ people not being able to open doors, which is obviously false

@carl_feynman @pickover I think you might be double counting? You'd want to use ranges instead of greater thans

@pickover The ratio has no average. One time in ten, the ratio is grater than ten. One time in 100, it is greater than 100. And so on. The more times you try, the higher the average. (Assuming that by "average" you mean "mean".)

The Woman, the Finger, the Rods: A Math Puzzle That Will Make You Question Everything. "I've cracked 10,000 rods at random into 2 pieces by throwing them against a rock. What do you think is the average ratio of the length of the long piece to the length of the short piece?"

@MTabarrok The guru's statement cuts off this recursion, though, because in the nested counterfactual where everyone else is brown eyed you know you must be blue eyed

@MTabarrok Imagine you're one of the blue eyed people. You don't know what eye color you are, so you ask yourself what would happen if you were brown eyed. All the blue eyed people would then see 98 blue eyed people, and they'd imagine if they were brown, and so on.

@kitten_beloved @moultano If you apply for a green card through EB3 and you meet all the criteria and you're from the UK, the wait time is 2 years. If you apply, meet all the criteria and you're from India, the wait time is 12.5 years.

@ophiecoping even before the cultural revolution tho china was pretty nonreligious, it was mostly just scattered buddhism and weird syncretist beliefs

@ophiecoping of course in practice this is questionably successful because people still have a lot of folk beliefs and superstitions involving things that bring you good/bad fortune, but, you know, i think not any more superstitious than other countries?
