I hate writing stories about layoffs, particularly about fellow reporters. Its heartbreaking to see (as I have since Im pretty old) the business go from a real business to what it is today. That said, there are bright spots. Those of us who have carved out niches of expertise (biz, law, finance, medicine) will always add value and make money. Those of us who try and break news, the same. I feel for the kids coming up, but one word of advice: Add value by breaking news, and become smart in one of those niches I mentioned and you will find work.

Did you know that there are people in this country who do not pay any federal income tax (no taxes even withheld), yet because of refundable tax credits, they get a refund every year? That doesn't seem right to me
