The best wealth tax is a massive increase in housebuilding. -> Property is largest source of UK wealth -> Most actually doable wealth taxes boil down to taxing property anyway -> More supply = lower house prices = more people on ladder, lower cost of living, wealth democratised

I am, like most British Jews, growing really frustrated with this vague talk about “division and unity and hate.” We have a very specific problem here. An IRGC cut out is recruiting disaffected Islamist-radicalised men, many long known to the police and negligently left ambling about, to a conduct a targeted intifada against the London Jewish community. And both our counter intelligence and counter terror forces are failing to intercept them. I don’t need a mass London rally of well wishers or cultural luminaires to post their wishes — nice as that is — I need an actual security strategy to clamp down on this so my community can go about our lives in peace as is our absolute minimum right. And I need politicians to call the problem for what it is — not good vibes.

It’s all too clear that a country in which Jews are attacked on the streets simply because they are Jewish, synagogues need to employ security, & anti-Semitic slogans & images are paraded through city centres or exhibited in art galleries is exactly what we’ve become.

Here come the cliches….. ‘This is not who we are as country’ ‘this has no place in british society’ and the rest…. Aptly done @JewishNewsUK

I want to stress British Jews are super concentrated in NW London. there are only 250k of us. Roughly around 100k of us live in this area and surrounding areas. It’s like a small town that’s now under sustained attack. This is the heart of the community and every connected Jew across the country will ties, friends, family here. It’s not felt like disjointed and episodic attacks but like small town the size of Worcester is under attack by an IRGC-cut out.

Many supporters of the bill have said that assisted suicide wouldn't come at the expense of good palliative care. Now that assisted suicide is dead - having been rejected by the Scottish Parliament, the Senedd, and Westminster - I hope we can focus on improving palliative care.

One of my quick-fixes for a lot of local problems is that businesses should get votes in every local authority as they do in the City of London. They are a massive part of any community and they pay a significant portion of local taxes. This would also reduce the power of NIMBYs
Fred de Fossard@defossardf

Local government in Britain is so oddly hostile to the hospitality industry, especially in places where that sector is most important to the local economy. It is so strange.

I saw Palantir’s tech at work during Covid, knitting together dozens of databases to make the vaccine programme work. It saved a huge number of lives. Applying it to the wider NHS was, and is, a no-brainer.

If the US copied Hungary's anti-fascist strategy, the Democrats would run Mitt Romney or Susan Collins and every single third party/organization including the Greens and the DSA would endorse them.

The 150 homes they're opposing will be literally next door to the tube station. This is the perfect location for desperately needed new homes.

@LibDems Houses don't need GPs; people do. The general taxes that are paid by the new residents should be funding for the NHS services they use. This is just another NIMBY excuse for blocking the homes we need.

At Westminster Magistrates' Court. None of the cases from Charing Cross Police Station have appeared. No reason was given. "It's almost the default position," says the judge. Some good news: one defendant has appeared for their case. But they don't speak English and the Farsi interpreter hasn’t turned up so it won't go ahead. The judge moves down the list to the 15th case that was meant to happen today, but still no one is ready. Almost the entire morning has been wasted. Court adjourned.

1) the Falklands were originally illegally seized from Argentina in 1833. BUT they have been British ever since. 2) throughout the 1960s and 70s, Argentina negotiated in good faith to trade ownership. They offered concessions, such as “Falklanders won’t have to serve in rhe army.” The British teams all recommended the transfer. Each UK government punted it to the next. Was Argentina right to invade? Of course not. The Falklanders’ opinion should be taken into account! Plus the major reason for the attack was because the junta was looking for distractions. But I can’t help but think that it would be cheapest for Argentina to pay each Falklander a million dollars (costing about 3.5 billion) to move away.

🚨 CHILE SIDES WITH ARGENTINA ON THE FALKLANDS Chile has officially declared its support for Argentina’s claim over the Falkland Islands. This came in a joint statement after a meeting between the two countries’ leaders. The Falklands are British territory - defended with British blood in 1982. Now more countries are openly testing us because they sense weakness in London. Britain must make it crystal clear: The Falklands are ours and will remain ours forever.

@sissenberg @nytimes A correction will appear in tomorrow's print edition: "A headline with an article on Friday about President Trump’s threats to leave NATO misstated the full name of the body. It is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, not the North American Treaty Organization."
