About 5 years ago we walked to the drum circle at Pritchard Park, and on the way we passed Junkies openly smoking pot and then another small group shooting up and sharing a needle right on Haywood.
This was a day after getting abused by a panhandler in the parking garage right outside of the auditorium

If you have ambitions of visiting Asheville North Carolina you probably will not fit in too well unless you are extremely woke. It's literally Portland Oregon east😳

Tulsi, thank you. Not just for taking the time to visit Alan today, but for understanding the weight of that sacrifice in a way few people ever truly will.
You answered the call to serve this country just like he did. You know what it means to put on the uniform, to stand willing to give everything in defense of this nation, and that makes this gesture mean even more to our family.
Seeing you standing there at his grave honestly brought me to tears. Thank you for honoring Alan, for saying his name, and for reminding me that there are still people in this country who have not forgotten the cost of freedom. 🇺🇸

It was an honor to visit your husband’s grave today on your behalf, and to pay my respects. It was wonderful to see the beautiful flowers representing many others who did the same. Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and to the loved ones they left behind. Thank you for your service and sacrifice @SharrellAnne2 🙏🏽

This is probably a long shot, but if anybody happens to be in DC this weekend and plans on visiting Arlington, I would love to see a fresh photo of my husband’s grave in Section 60.

There’s just something about knowing people still stop by, still say his name, still remember. 🇺🇸⭐🇺🇸

When I made that post yesterday, I truly thought maybe one or two people might stop by if they happened to already be at Arlington this weekend. I never imagined that nearly twenty years later, Alan’s grave would be surrounded by flowers, flags, prayers, and strangers speaking his name on Memorial Day.
Thank you for showing up for him today. Thank you to everybody else who did too.
As a Gold Star family, there’s always this quiet fear that over time people move on and your person slowly fades into history. Y’all reminded me today that Alan is still remembered, still honored, and still matters. I can’t fully put into words what that means to us. 🥹

Good rainy morning from Arlington National Cemetery. Specifically, the final resting place of your hero husband Staff Sgt. Alan Shaw. His grave now has some fresh roses placed in front of it, alongside two American flags, a reminder that Americans truly appreciate his sacrifice. God bless you and your family on this Memorial Day 🙏🏻🇺🇸
