Something just doesn't add up. Every election says that the opposite of these numbers, and no one wants to run because they are pretty sure they will lose to a Stranger-endorsed candidate to their left. Explain? Someone please square the circle.

🚨A new Seattle Chamber of Commerce poll of Seattle voters is out, and the numbers are bad... The Quality of Life Index is headed back down to 2023 levels, which is insane when you consider the highest (non Covid) point this decade was late last year. A majority 52% of voters now believe things in Seattle are on the "wrong track", with a massive 75% worried about the future of downtown. And the regional optimism index dropped 10% from September 2025. Some other data points: 👉73% of voters say big businesses are important to Seattle's success 👉58% don't trust the city to spend their tax dollars wisely 👉58% say taxes are too high vs the services received 👉54% say city regulations and taxes are one of the primary causes of Seattle’s high cost of living 👉71% say crime, drugs, and homelessness are their biggest frustration, with concerns over public safety on their way back to 2023 levels (Seattle's most violent year, ever) 👉Only 42% say Seattle should increase taxes to pay for the budget deficit And finally... 👉Over HALF of Seattleites polled say they have considered moving, with 46% still considering leaving the city. If this doesn't sound alarms at City Hall, nothing will. Have a read for yourself: seattlechamber.com/wp-content/upl… @SeattleChamber

Latest Seattle restaurant to close: Sam's Tavern in Capitol Hill. The owner cited labor costs as the number factor saying: “I believe that we should pay employees more, but I also think that there should be a tip credit. You're really making it challenging for operators to want to come back in and do anything in Seattle because there's not a lot of upside, and there's a lot more risk now with trying to do something.” Not sure he could not be any clearer than that.. @srobertsontv | @KING5Seattle 'Rising costs shutter doors of beloved Capitol Hill bar' Article: king5.com/article/money/…

“We built this crisis by choosing developers over people. We can choose differently.” There’s still a segment of the left that believes that socking it to developers is more important than maximizing housing construction. But that view was way more prevalent in Seattle 10-15 years ago, when Boomer electeds were still wielding substantial political power. Housing policy is one area where the Millennial/Gen Z left has rapidly evolved in a much smarter and more results-focused direction, leaving behind the old Boomer/Gen X left as well as the status quo mods.

Seattle has one of the worst housing crises in the country. I see it every time I’m home in my district. People working full-time jobs who can’t afford rent. Teachers, nurses, and transit workers who can’t live in the city they serve. Families on housing assistance waiting lists that have been frozen for years. This is a policy failure, not an inevitability. We built this crisis by choosing developers over people. We can choose differently. Housing is a human right. We fight for it like one.

Sit back, take an edible, and think about how "Obama needs $1 billion for a ballroom" would get covered in 2011.

The left’s almost jocular response to last night’s gunfire at the White House Correspondents Dinner stood in marked contrast to the somber tone adopted by Republicans in the wake of the hammer attack on Paul Pelosi.
