For those who don't fully understand what is up with the NHS, here is a thread for you that might help. I'm a consultant physician working as a doctor in the NHS in Yorkshire and Wales for 32 years now. I have experienced the NHS at its best (2008) and its worst (2022).

@jamesecoulston @ShaunLintern Missing someone there Mr Coulston...😉 But you are correct. The very best labour wards are led by a triumvirate of disciplines who respect each other and become way more than their constituent parts.

@ShaunLintern I think there is something more fundamental than just ⬆️ training (although clearly a need for this with ⬆️ Complexity, ⬆️demand etc) Specifically: interactions/standards of practice/ ‘rules of engagement’ etc between two highly skilled set of practitioners - MW and obstetrician

A genuine question...do we have our training right for midwives re increased complications and skills needed for when things go wrong? Should midwives train first as general nurses then specialise in midwifery like district nursing?
Shaun Lintern@ShaunLintern

Another key weakness is the skills and training to cope with a population of women that have higher risks than in the past. @Marianfknight from @mbrrace said she is concerned things are getting worse 7/n

@Doc_IonaCollins Love it- but whilst wearing scrubs, theatre cap with Louise, Consultant Surgeon, Yellow badge with name and Cons Surgeon in caps AND ID badge with same, I still get asked if I'm the nurse.....so give up and answer "I'm the boss"!

I often wear scrubs in work and I wear this badge for as much clarity about my job as possible. I also have a few scrub caps, all with my name and job title on them. I think this helps in theatre. Finally, we have scrubs for the wards with "Spinal Surgery" written in large print.

@JamesBurrows001 @Jack__Needham Oh and if you have a drive you can charge on just get an EV. Comparative costs for us mean new biggish SUV same expense as 7yr old small ICE car. We won't go back.

@JamesBurrows001 Get pension hit worked out properly by someone who knows what they're talking about like @Jack__Needham. It may be very small. £400 per year for me. The pretax and pension saving with NHS Fleet or similar is massive in comparison. But it's all about personal circumstances.

I’m an oncologist and I love my job. But I’m striking because I know first-hand that the NHS is failing our patients with cancer and I’m striking because I know first-hand that the NHS is failing its workforce. lucygossage.com/my-reasons-for… #ConsultantsStrike

I am a NHS consultant. I am financially comfortable, in a job I love, so why am I striking tomorrow? Answer: Because the next generation will not be able to live off what I do today. The juniors that will become these consultants know this and are leaving already. Why? 🧵 👇

1/ Short 🧵 on lies, damned lies, & statistics I've seen some rather misleading use of statistics on the BBC / Sky today, its not clear whether they dont understand the differences, or they are trying to mislead Please read all & share / RT

@Bad_Faeries @DrEmmaNash @SangitaMyska Many ways to do it but no doubt current model is very cheap. Government is just not interested in funding it properly. So many examples where they will do anything apart from actually paying for the correct staff/equipment/facilties!

Took 3 days of trying (& a lot of stress) before I gave up hope of an appointment with an NHS GP. I paid £59.00 for a private 10 min appointment to see a doc on video. She was great. V experienced. It’s a lot of money. The Govt (& Labour) must zero-in on fixing Primary 1/

@WelshGasDoc This. I doubt there is any evidence at all that going to 6 hospitals makes you any better than just 2. But it makes you more tired, less part of the team, and poorer. And makes caring responsibilities 100x worse. Time to treat JDs like the grown-ups they are.
