Illinois lawmakers just rammed House Bill 4592, the Retail Cash Payment Act, through the Senate Commerce Committee today after unanimous House passage on April 9, forcing every retail spot, bar, brewery, and store across Illinois to accept cash for anything under $500. Meanwhile, smash-and-grab crews are hitting Chicago businesses daily like it’s an all-you-can-steal buffet. Nothing says fighting crime like making sure the thieves get paid in untraceable cash.
