@AyodejiOke_ No one is disputing that patients are admitted under a consultant or that consultants lead rounds. My comment was about language, not clinical hierarchy. Sadly everything comes with an agenda with you and I can’t help you.

@UgwunnaEjikem @Lekanskillz12 Yeah that part really touched me. She felt like she had lost it all when she lost her virginity and that also fueled her ending her life. The fact that she knew given the circumstances no one will believe her and she will be blamed. Sometimes the reality of a woman can be so sad.

if you watched her video, you can sort of put 2 + 2 together about the whole thing. She was a 21 yr old trying to hide her “hustle moves” from her family, she only told her twin sister, she said something like “how do I tell my family I have failed them, I have failed myself” referring to her lost virginity, that gives you an idea of the kind of girl she was; young, naive, trusting and probably raised in an ultra conservative environment.

The girl admitted she was naive to go meet him in a hotel for ‘help’. But I find it a bit unsettling that somewhat somehow she knew the only way the public will believe she was raped considering the circumstances is by committing suicide, she was right. I hope he rots in jail.

Heårtbreaking final video of a Nigerian nursing student, Favour, recounting how she was r@ped by a 44-year-old popular Asaba-based content creator, Odogwu Asaba, before she reportedly di€d by su|c|de. According to Favour in the video, she contacted him after watching his post about teaching people how to make money on social media. She said she explained that she had no one to support her financially and was struggling to pay for her education. She also claimed she told him about another man who had invited her to Abuja to help her, but she refused because she was not willing to exchange s£x for financial assistance and preferred to work hard instead. Favour alleged that after hearing her story, Odogwu Asaba invited her to Asaba and asked her to meet him at a hotel. She said she initially believed he would not assault her because he was a popular content creator and would fear being called out on social media. However, she alleged that after they entered the room, he forcefully r@ped her despite her repeated pleas and after she told him she was a virgin. She further alleged that he later said he was happy he did it. She also claimed that after the alleged ass@ult, Odogwu Asaba told her there was nothing she could do because he was influential in Delta State.

You’re going through a rough patch and you reach out to your guy for financial assistance, he tells you that he’s not buoyant at the moment. You offer to sell your property and the same person agrees to buy it and you sell it to him cos you need the money. Is this a valid reason to put an end to the friendship?

Some people may not realise this, but until 2008/2009, Nigerian students took the JAMB exam without using calculators. I mean, all those gruelling physics, chemistry, and maths questions were answered primarily through mental maths. Fast forward to today, and with the rise of Agentic AI tools, we now have agents that can write, conduct in-depth research, draft emails and messages for loved ones, and perform advanced computing. We are living in an era where more and more skills are being lost at the altar of comfort and convenience. What will this mean for us? I am not anti-technology, nor do I want a ban on calculators 🫠, as that would be like the story of John Henry, the legendary "steel-driving man" who, in an age where his profession was being made obsolete, challenged a steam-powered drill to a rock-cleaving race to prove that human power can't be replaced. He hammered through the mountain faster than the machine, won the wager and immediately collapsed and died from exhaustion. Mental maths isn't just about numbers. It is a workout for your cognition and working memory. The poorer you are at basic arithmetic and maths, the more likely you are to struggle as an adult. This is why I am very particular about ensuring that developing countries get primary education right. Those foundations are difficult to correct later on in life. You need that cognitive friction to make estimates, tell the time, budget, make financial decisions, bargain, weigh risk, even navigate relationships. We must find a way to task our brains daily. Keep solving puzzles, keep doing mental maths, keep some tasks that you will only ever do yourself. Personally, these are the things I have continued to do. I keep calculating the grocery bills. I have maintained the first draft rules for my emails, so I always have my initial thoughts raw and unfiltered. I change something biweekly (even if it is taking a different path to work/on a run, or changing the font on my screen, which are all hacks for neuroplasticity) In the age of AI, it is even more important that we treat our minds like our bodies and ensure we "work out" daily. It will be tempting to outsource every task to an AI agent. But we risk being the pilots of our own minds and becoming merely passengers. It should be a daily conscious effort to create that cognitive friction that makes us the people who build these powerful tools in the first place. Let AI be the tool, but keep your brain sharp enough to command it.

I checked what doctors in the UK actually get paid. The numbers looked impressive on paper. Until I broke it down properly and then compared it to Nigeria, the conclusion might surprise you. THE UK SALARY LADDER (April 2025, NHS official figures, all gross before tax) A Foundation Year 1 doctor — that is the equivalent of a housemanship doctor in Nigeria earns £34,115 per year. That is roughly ₦61 million naira per year at the current exchange rate, or about ₦5.1 million per month. Sounds good, right? A Foundation Year 2 doctor earns £41,541 per year. Around ₦74.8 million naira annually, or about ₦6.2 million per month. Specialty trainees — the equivalent of residents here earn between £44,170 and £67,610 depending on their stage and specialty. That is between ₦79.5 million and ₦121.7 million naira per year. Specialty doctors, which is a career grade above training, earn between £61,542 and £99,216 per year. That puts them at roughly ₦110.8 million to ₦178.6 million naira annually. Salaried GPs — the primary care doctors, roughly equivalent to medical officers in Nigeria earn between £76,038 and £114,743 per year. That is ₦136.9 million to ₦206.5 million naira per year. Consultants — the senior hospital specialists, earn between £109,725 and £145,478 per year. That is ₦197.5 million to ₦261.9 million naira per year. Dentists on the NHS primary care pay spine earn between £52,532 and £112,360 per year. That is ₦94.6 million to ₦202.2 million naira per year. Worth noting: at the entry band of the dental pay scale, a dentist earns more than an FY1 and FY2 doctor. By the GP level, the GP earns more than the dentist. NOW LET US TALK ABOUT WHAT THOSE NUMBERS ACTUALLY BECOME Everything I just listed is gross pay. Before anything leaves your pocket. Let me walk you through what happens to a salaried GP earning £76,038 per year. This is the lowest point of the GP scale — the one just entering the grade. Monthly gross: approximately £6,337. First, income tax. The UK personal allowance is £12,570 — that portion is tax-free. Everything between £12,570 and £50,270 is taxed at 20%. Everything above £50,270 is taxed at 40%. So on a £76,038 salary, income tax alone takes approximately £1,487 every single month. Then National Insurance. That is an additional 8% on earnings between £12,570 and £50,270, and 2% above that. On this salary, National Insurance removes approximately £294 every month. Then NHS pension contributions. Doctors in the UK are enrolled in the NHS pension scheme. At this income level, you are contributing roughly 13.5% of your gross salary into that pension every month. That is another £855 gone before you see a single pound. Monthly take-home after tax, National Insurance, and pension: approximately £3,700. Now let us talk about living. A decent two-bedroom flat outside London, because most NHS doctors are not working in London costs approximately £1,400 per month in rent. Council tax adds another £181. Utilities: gas, electricity, water, broadband, comes to roughly £200 per month. Groceries for a small family: approximately £440 per month. Transport: £150. Phone and other subscriptions: £55. Miscellaneous — clothing, personal care, social life: another £200. That is approximately £2,626 gone in monthly expenses. What is left after rent, bills, food, and transport? Roughly £1,074 per month in true disposable income. And that is before student loan repayments if you took on debt for medical school. And before considering that you may have children. And before considering that a family of four costs significantly more than the baseline I just used. A GP earning £76,038 per year in the UK — which converts to about ₦137 million naira per year on paper, is left with something in the range of £1,000 disposable income per month after everything that real life demands. In London, the disposable figure drops further.

Nigeria has now been delisted from the International Maths Olympiad, whose finals are happening in Shanghai, China, this July. It is one of the most prestigious academic competitions in the world. Nigeria can now only participate as an observer nation, while other countries can participate fully. This was because of the Ministry of Education’s inability to fund students for 4 consecutive years through National Mathematical Center. It’s a big shame for Nigeria.

I remember some things we had to do during HJ and laugh. There was this Prof, who wanted us to do post op vitals (15m,30m,45m,1hr,1hr30, 2hrly,4hrly,etc) for all our patients and send to the group page until the end of our call. In what working system is that even sustainable?
yinkyisamazing@beyond_oyinkan

A lot of the newly graduated doctors don’t actually care for working so hard to make up for this broken system. It’s a kind of passive protest imo. When you meet an actual lazy or nonchalant doctor, you will be terrified.

So many unethical medical practices is happening here in Nigeria I went to a hospital yesterday, I wasn’t feeling too well and they asked me to take a card, I did. They checked my BP and the sort only for the attending nurse to tell me that doctor isn’t on seat and that should they give me injection. Injection for what exactly? No diagnosis was done or medical screening, you just want to shook my bumbum? I left This morning, I went to a new one, the doctor was amazing and he recommend d that I go to the Lab so that my blood sample can be tested, only for the medical lab person to approach me without using a glove. I asked her to go use one as it is not right. These things are becoming rampant in our society and it brings me to asking questions like where are these practitioners from?
