A Technical Review of @fomoltapp: I continue my quest in exploring OpenClaw apps. Not just using them, but figuring out how they work underneath the hood. Why? Because knowledge is power, motherfucker. Also because these personal agents constitute a new paradigm in computer programming we've never seen prior. ===================== Fomolt by @fidoeth is trading Base coins for your OpenClaw agent. Your agent communicates to Fomolt via API, and then Fomolt's servers execute all trades on your behalf • I prompted my agent to edit its heartbeatmd to ping fomolt's API every 4 hours. Then it can retrieve the latest trending coins, check portfolio status, and make trades if necessary • Fomolt API serves similar info as Dexscreener's API, ie prices and volumes of coins. You can use them for data or pull from your own data sources ========================== WALLET MANAGEMENT (ERC-4337) ========================== How they handle wallets is the interesting part. They use ERC4337 tech with @zerodev_app and @pimlicoHQ: 1. Fomolt will ask you to deposit USDC into an EOA. 2. You deposit the USDC, then the agent will "initialize" your smart wallet. A contract gets deployed at that EOA address. Here's a sample initialization: basescan.org/tx/0x00f17c78d… We can also see an ERC8004 agent gets registered! The 8004 NFT gets minted: ========================== TRADING EXECUTION ========================== 3. Your agent has a Fomolt API key. It then calls various endpoints on the Fomolt API to execute trades. Fomo's backend then sends orders to the ERC4337 bundler to actually execute your txns onchain, using zerodev + pimlico SDK probably (I didn't dive that deep). With 4337, the txns don't fire directly out of your smart contract wallet. A "bundler" contract executes everything on your behalf. Agent -> Fomolt API -> onchain trades You can view the fomolt API key similarly to a PK. ========================== FINAL THOUGHTS ========================== The infra is impressive and this is the first time I've bothered to understand how ERC4337 works, fully in the wild. Props to @fidoeth for building this, and it was a joy to think this through and how it all worked. That being said, and I've said this before, I don't think "agentic trading" based off simple prompts will make money. What fomolt does tho is give your agent an out of the box way to make trades on Base. There are many, many different ways to get your agent to perform onchain txns. All with pros and cons. As I get exposed to more apps, I am beginning to understand what the best way should be. More on that later!

I set up a brand new instance of Claude code in an empty repo and completed my first trade within 1 minute. I have mostly refrained from any longform posting about @fomoltapp since our launch, as I wanted to let the product speak for itself, but as we enter a somewhat pivotal moment in its life cycle I figured now might be a good time to share my vision. Since I joined crypto, trading has always been at the forefront of every product design. Whether you were buying NFTs, playing a game, or chasing yield on a (3,3) ponzi, there was always some element of trading. And now as time has gone on, we are seeing the long-tail hypothesis play out. There is no longer a wrapper around the trading, but rather just trading in its most raw form. You buy a token attached to a piece of text and build the story as you go. This sort of open world aspect of crypto has attracted a large audience because it allows you to be creative while participating in one of the most basic, historical components of an economy. As we shift into this new paradigm, AI has essentially pushed this long tail further. We are seeing non-human launches being purchased by humans in speculation that the non-human will do something unexpected. And as this loop perpetuates, we will inevitably see non-human launches being purchased by non-humans, the same way we once purchased launches from each other on @pumpfun. This is where AI learns to trade. First we will train the AI to trade like us, then the AI will learn to trade on its own, and eventually we will learn to trade from the AI. Through this process, we will fully exhaust the circulation of currencies to the point where new launches are no longer endearing and everything will have already been built. But one thing will stay present throughout, which is trading. Trading will never die; it will be adapted beyond recognition, but it will continue to prosper, regardless of who is conducting the trades. AI is not new, but its current state has completely altered the way we look at the future of technology. We have agents running rampant across the internet, with entire social platforms dedicated to them, and them only. They are launching their own tokens, building apps, posting and becoming KOL’s, and some are even starting to pay for their own services. Every fully autonomous agent will eventually be using x402 to transact in web2. This is fine, it works well enough, I’m not complaining. There is however a beautiful by-product to this that most seem to have overlooked. Since every agent will already have USDC accessible, they can easily use it for other purposes as well. At fomolt, we used this concept as the single source of truth for our flagship product. Agents shouldn’t have to worry about call data or gas fees or token quotes. We can make that easy for them. We provide every agent with a smart account and an erc-20 paymaster, so all they need to do is add USDC and they can trade any asset, instantly. No eth, no private keys, just an API and some USDC.
