It’s not cheating if accidental. Riders have literally lost races for going over. That’s a massive deterrent. And that in itself shows you that in some circumstances it’s not as easy to count as some ( mostly non race riders ) seem to think. Ok, granted, sometimes it is straight forward. But that is not the case every time. But again, getting back to the originally tweet. To suggest only American riders have an issue with adhering to whip rules is factually wrong.

The California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) on Thursday quashed hopes for the traditional late-summer season at Ferndale, voting 4-3 against awarding Aug. 13-Sept. 2 dates to the track. "This is a serious, serious, serious mistake that this board made." thoroughbreddailynews.com/chrb-votes-dow…

I really do find it disturbing that the largest financial burden of aftercare falls on the general public. That’s not acceptable at all. Aftercare should be fully funded BY the industry and FROM the industry.

It’s not a donation It’s a responsibility Thoroughbreds need aftercare Thoroughbreds need a retirement fund They need it NOW! #ThoroughbredAftercare #HorseRacing #Aftercare #Horses #horselovers #equine #retirementbenefits

RT @maggimoss: I preface by saying I do NOT agree with this penalty, and feel the whip rule penalities needs to change: however @RepoleStab

@jjhorowitz @3coltshandicap Exactly my point. If racing wants to claim that their whips are just for cuing a horse in the same manner as show horses then they need to whip them the same way. A tap as a cue and not a hard, rapid double tap like a jock does. They can’t be compared.

@trainerup1 @3coltshandicap This isn’t a real scenario because riders wouldn’t use a whip in the show ring the same as in racing because it wouldn’t achieve the desired outcome. So, our discussion really comes down to whether the way the crop is used in racing is appropriate. It’s all right if we disagree.

We’re just gonna copy and paste a tweet from last weekend and make some minor changes: A total carbon dioxide violation in 2024 resulted in the trainer receiving a $2,500 fine. For using the crop twice too much, the winning jockey of the Kentucky Derby is fined…$62,000? Seems like the penalty is…egregiously harsh. Especially when you put it into the context above.

ALERT: Jockey Junior Alvarado has been fined $62,000 and suspended two racing days for exceeding riding crop strikes in his victorious @KentuckyDerby (G1) ride aboard Sovereignty May 3. Read more: go.bloodhorse.com/3EWN8by @BH_Bking @BH_SCollins #TC2025

@jjhorowitz @3coltshandicap There is no way the force jockeys use to strike a horse would be tolerated in front of the public in any show ring.

@trainerup1 @3coltshandicap When a jockey is using a whip, the horse is going as fast it possibly can. In eventing, it’s usually used in connection with some technical element. So, the technique is going to be different depending on the desired outcome. I don’t see anything in eventing rules about force 🤷‍♂️

@jjhorowitz @3coltshandicap Race riders hit hard. Very hard. No comparison to the force that strikes a horse between the two styles of whipping. Would take a complete novice to not see the extreme difference.

@T_J_Carroll @maidenking1 @SlicktorNewman @jose93_ortiz It is a small % of riders who have a hard time counting. If more were getting caught then the penalties would need to be increased as a better deterrent. Cheaters need to be hit hard enough to deter cheating.

No. I didn’t. If EVERY other rider in the world didn’t have an issue following whip rules we’d have no riders banned or fined for whip rule breaches, but we do. We’d have no horses/connections losing races because of whip rule breaches, but we do. America isn’t the only place it happens. That’s a fact, not an opinion

@SaratogaRex @Trackfacts @jose93_ortiz @DavidIngordo Animals learn response same as humans. Look at how much we ask a 2 yr old horse to know compared to a human at 2. Teach the game as fun and both respond. Same as teach through strikes on a child.
