Suddenly 'everyone' is talking about this... this isn't journalism this is advocacy and the ABC are joining in. Newsflash, any journalist or politician who calls the rebate for off-road diesel use a 'tax break' or a 'subsidy' needs to be mocked mercilessly. What this lie is based on is the idea that government is entitled to everything and if it leaves something in your pocket then you should be grateful. The fact is that we own everything and the government has to justify every cent it steals from us. The fuel excise, and its heavy trucking counterpart the Heavy Vehicle Road User Charge, applies to... ... roads. The justification for the tax is the damage to the roads. Ok, that's not a terrible idea, but that means that people who use diesel, NOT on the roads... shouldn't pay the tax. And that's how it is. That's how it SHOULD be. Giving back the taxes that shouldn't have been taken in the first place isn't controversial, and it's certainly not a 'subsidy'.

Speaker Milton Dick is becoming a tad precious. He suspended @TimWilsonMP from the chamber for an hour today for supposed constant interjections in parliament, and then reprimanded Tim for posting about him on social media. Whilst Wilson was out of the chamber he posted on X that he got suspended from parliament because of his questions to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese about his tax policies. “Deceive the public and you become PM, expose the deceit and get ejected from [question time],” he wrote, before editing the post to remove the part about question time. Dick said the comments were brought to his attention and he will get Wilson to apologise. “It has been brought to my attention that the member for Goldstein, after he was directed to leave the chamber for constant interjections after being warned, took to social media and has seriously reflected on the Speaker,” Dick said with Wilson still suspended. “I ask, when the member returns to the chamber to apologise to the chair and remind all members not to reflect on the chair inside the chamber or on social media.” Very precious because Wilson never posted anything about Dick personally he commented on the action of being booted out. In a free society one can make a comment about an action taken.
