Governor Evers has no idea what the bill he vetoed would have done. He is objectively incorrect that the bill involved public funds.
It would've unlocked millions of dollars in *privately funded scholarships* for kids in both public and private schools.

BREAKING: A three-judge panel appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court has ruled that it cannot overturn the state's congressional maps. The judges further held that a liberal attempt to do so was a partisan gerrymander and dismissed the case.

Shots rang out close to a teen "takeover" at Moody Park in Milwaukee tonight. We heard the gunfire and saw teens sprinting away as officers and deputies ran in. This comes one day after another takeover at Bayshore Mall, where officers arrested 14 teens. @WISN12News

MILWAUKEE: Crime is exploding. Cops are overworked, underpaid, and stretched dangerously thin, with zero backup from city leadership (notably the city attorney and @MayorMKE. Take the federal assistance that's been offered before it's too late and the streets get even worse. Act before MKE turns into the next Chicago. It's more than halfway there.

The Fed government bestowed $2.33 BILLION in one time Covid aid money to Wisconsin public schools. Most districts blew the money on complete crap. The Fed money ran out in 2024 and districts refused to cut back to prior spending levels. So they pass referendums

He’s referring to a bill that would have allowed private donors to give to scholarship organizations to provide families of public AND private school kids with additional resources to—at no cost to taxpayers—cover additional educational expenses for their kids.

If you need government permission, then government mandates come with it. Government controls EVERY education penny it oversees. Ever heard of having to qualify in order to accept the money as a school? These ESSA mandates were exposed 10 years ago. Keep pretending they don't exist and the kids will pay the price
You have no idea how many intertwined government agency policies are tied together to manage control of very penny spent on education. Parens patriae is also always looming and can't be escaped. Cause & effect is lost on people. If they don't know about it, it doesn't exist, and just like the woke, the right attacks anybody who brings a counterpoint, no matter the truth.

Oh wow, our Governor is making jokes about harming school children throughout Wisconsin.
Here's what's going on: Federal law creates a dollar-for-dollar tax credit (up to $1,700) for any donations to scholarship granting organizations. You give money to the organization, you take a tax credit, the organization must then use the money for scholarships.
Those scholarships are open to all students, public and private alike. Can cover tutoring, transportation, special needs services, etc. More money for kids at zero cost to the State of Wisconsin or our local districts.
But Governor Evers' purely political decision making means Wisconsin kids (in both public and private schools) are ineligible to receive those scholarships. So while you can still make a donation, and claim a tax credit -- your money just will be sent out of state to help kids elsewhere, no Wisconsin kids can benefit.
Real galaxy brain stuff here by our Governor...

It is shameful that @GovEvers is mocking children and families desperate for services as he vetos funding.
This federal K-12 scholarship program could be life changing for WI children! Centers like On The Mark Dyslexia Clinic in Northeast WI, which provides tutoring for K-12 students with dyslexia, have over 100 students on the waitlists for testing and services. This program would be no cost to the state, just more aid for kids who desperately need it.
History will judge him harshly.

Governor Evers here is referring to a bill he vetoed that would have provided an opportunity for scholarships for both public and private school students.
It would've helped children with dyslexia who cannot afford to pay for reading support, children whose parents struggle to pay for before- and after-school care, the family who cannot afford fees for their child to participate in band trips and other extracurriculars, and so much more.
And our governor thinks it is amusing to share a picture of him holding a stop sign as some sort of "own" to private schools / school choice. What he's really doing is stopping families in need from accessing resources that would greatly benefit their children.
But hey I'm sure the teachers unions are happy.
