Right. This is important, and I need every “gender-critical” man, woman, mineral and vegetable to pay attention, unless you possess significant financial independence or happen to be a billionaire.
If you start spouting shit like this at work, you WILL get fired.
No enchanted legal cavalry is coming over the hill to rescue you. An employment tribunal will examine what you actually said, where you said it, who heard it and how your conduct affected colleagues and service users.
“But J.K. Rowling says it” is not a protected philosophical argument. It is the workplace equivalent of producing a mouldy wizard card as evidence.
Rowling can broadcast this filth because nobody can sack her.
Even if her publisher dropped her tomorrow, Hollywood stopped answering the telephone and every licensing executive fled screaming into the sea, she would never need to earn another penny. Her children are grown or nearly grown. They have lives of their own. Their mother happens to possess more money than Croesus with a merchandise department.
The principal damage Rowling can inflict upon herself is reputational.
You do not possess that protection.
You have rent. A mortgage. Children. Energy bills. Car payments. A manager called Steve who already thinks you spend too long smoking behind the bins. You may depend upon references, professional registration or the goodwill of colleagues who do not want to hear you describing trans parents as sexual predators over a tuna sandwich.
Rowling can spend every morning firing radioactive obscenities from the battlements because the castle is already paid for.
You can lose your livelihood before lunch.
I consider anti-trans politics inherently toxic. I also have no desire to see ordinary people become unemployed, impoverished or unable to support their families because an enormously wealthy celebrity persuaded them that screaming her latest fixation in the canteen constituted heroic dissent.
Imagine that. A dreaded “TRA” advising people not to ruin their lives.
So, for the love of whichever god, goddess or sentient woodland fungus you recognise, do not repeat this shit at work.
Do not say it in the canteen.
Do not say it on your fag break.
Do not put it in the staff WhatsApp.
Joanne can afford the consequences of behaving like Joanne.
You cannot.

Doubtless the Scottish government will tell us that if we think men full of cross sex hormones who get a thrill out of babies latching on to their chemically enhanced chests is blatant child abuse, you are a transphobe.

I am completely and utterly done pretending like JKR is not a transphobic bully.
Did she start out with a genuine concern for women’s rights when it comes to e.g. prisons and sports? Sure, I can believe that. I have concerns there too.
At this point though, she has been completely captured by abject hatred of trans women, a tiny minority of people who do not threaten women’s rights in any meaningful way.
Yes, trans women suffer from misogyny. If anything, trans women are seen as less than women. A fair target for ridicule and discrimination, by men and (some) women alike. And some of those women absolutely delight in beating up on trans women. After all, in their eyes, trans women are just men. A type of men they can denigrate without consequences, and rather even with the explicit support and encouragement of the *actually patriarchal* men in their lives.

@I_Heart_Crows you dislike him because he is telling the truth and exposing this awful ideology for what it is
English

A woman is a social archetype made up by society. It pretty much means very little.
You can be whoever or whatever gender you want to be, it does not matter.
Question answered.

@ultraCLAIR3 Do you mean you hate people who refuse to enable your mental illness?
English

@CloverSevenLeaf @RMiller77689 your sex is determined by what your reproductive system was designed to do, regardless of whether it works or not. This means that males produce small gametes (sperm cells) and females produce large gametes (egg cells).
English

@RMiller77689 @tv_gok Note we go by phenotype over genotype when there is a difference and that biological sex is referred to by phenotype.

Hilarious coming from a mid-at-best author

Trouble is, 'trans' isn't an adjective. 'Trans woman' is a compound noun meaning 'man who wants to be considered a woman.' If the individual being described isn't trans, he's simply a man, whereas a bespectacled woman remains a woman even if she's not wearing glasses.
English

@___TheGOOdWitch identifying as trans has nothing to do with being gay, lesbian or bisexual
English

@_charbear_98 @_moth__212 @boymoderology if gender is a social role and a different thing from sex, then why do trans-identifying males use gender to cross sex-divided boundaries, for example female-only toilets, changing rooms, and female sports?
English

@_moth__212 @tv_gok @boymoderology I assume you meant assigned sex at birth, not gender, as a gender is a social role you perform which in our society is tied to your assumed sex
mind you being on HRT changes your sex anyway, also I should note that being trans isn't a choice
English

@ZackTheEnby intersex is an umbrella term used to describe "Differences in Sexual Development" (DID), and people born with these conditions may possess ambiguous genitalia and/or secondary characteristics from both sexes. However, anyone ever who has DID is still either only male or female
English

Hermaphroditus was intersex very explicitly and was not a "goddess"
Their entire story is that they aren't a man or a woman. They are a minor god of androgyny and intersexuality.
eve@eeveeithink
Greek goddess btw
