@Psuperfresh I live north of Houston and have no need or desire to go to Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio.

Lots of reasons. This is gonna be long-winded. But I hope this helps 1. Houston was voted the worst city in America for live music. Part of the reason is because we have an extreme lack of mid sized to smaller venues in the city. There simply aren’t enough venues. So if you can’t put 1500 in a venue, or if you can’t fill one of our arenas/stadiums your pickings for available and viable establishments to perform here are slim. I’ve told every person i know that owns and operates night clubs/bars etc in this city that this is a problem and none of them seem to want to address the situation 🤷🏾‍♂️ 2. Artists rely on analytics. Our streaming metrics show us exactly who is listening and WHERE they’re listening. The artists teams use this data to map out tours where their fans are. Simply put, if the people aren’t listening in that city, we’re not coming. And 100 streams in that area isn’t enough. Based on the data. The venues may vary in certain cities. For instance, we may be able to pack a 2000 cap in Cleveland, but may need a 3-500 cap in Houston. If that is the case, then we need to find an available 3-500 cap in Houston that meats all of the tech specs needed to make a show happen the way it needs to run. That brings us back to #1. There aren’t enough of those 3. We are the 4th largest city. That doesn’t mean the artist has a great Houston base. Lots of artists don’t do well here, and part of the reason is because unless you’re one of the one percenters, or have a cult following, selling tickets in this city is a total crap shoot. People set an alarm for 1 percenters. They’ll hit snooze for other artists because they don’t understand that WE’RE likely on the hook for the selling of that venue. And they think they can just walk up and buy a ticket at the last minute
Catherine@cat_falgout

What’s up with the current trend of artists skipping over Houston on their tours? What do you mean you’re not coming to the fourth largest city in America? Why must I suffer?

@Birdyword It's meaningless. Most cities were small when incorporated so these figures only include legal city limits. The real number is the metro area. Example: - Miami legal city limits: 443,000 - Metro Miami: 6.4 million.

One of the issues @anothercohen, @Will_Gyde, & I talked about on the pod was how Austin is great for families, but struggling to get the 25 year old founder/engineer. New data shows us as the 2nd fastest market for Gen Z entrepreneurs. We may just grow our way out of the gap.

What building in Austin actually feels like right now, from two founders living it and scaling. @anothercohen and @Will_Gyde came to talk the business of health in the AI age. Instead we got the group chats on the record. Bullish on Austin with no BS. @TheEXECUTlONER_ First world problems. Of all the things to care about, this isn't one. A car is just a vehicle to get you from point A to point B.

This woman doesn’t want the car dealership’s logo on her car that she just bought from them. She takes a heat gun and removes the logo. I thought it was just me that it drives crazy but apparently not. If people are going to be driving around advertising for a dealership, shouldn’t the dealership pay you? 💯 Many said they won’t leave the dealership unless they remove it. Also, don’t want the dealership license player frame either. Does the car dealership logo bother you? Have you ever given it much thought? Or, do you think people like that are being ridiculous?

We hope this post about orphaned negatives makes you gruntled. An ‘orphaned negative’ is a word that SHOULD feel like it has a related word, but doesn’t. ‘Nonchalant’ is an orphaned negative because there is no ‘chalant.’
