And it was going to lose more, but Chandrashekhar Upadhyaya negotiated a better settlement such that some terai land remained. That was part of treaty negotiations, not "british being generous" lol

The part with Maithilis belonged the the Sena Kings of Makwanpur, Vijaypur and Chaudandi, conquered by Prithvi Narayan Shah himself, and never lost by Nepal.
