Last month, @FMCSA finalized updates related to non-domiciled CDLs and English Language Proficiency, effective March 16, 2026. These updates are expected to reduce the supply of CDL drivers available in the freight market. While the full impact will take time to assess, shifts in market conditions reinforce the importance of disciplined planning. For shippers, that can mean: • Actively tracking market shifts and routing guide performance to identify where issues are emerging. • Making targeted, lane-specific adjustments rather than redesigning entire networks. • Strengthening carrier relationships to become a true “shipper of choice,” prioritizing long-term partnerships over transactional moves. • Evaluating contract strategies and pricing structures, including flexible index-based approaches that protect service levels. By staying focused on operational fundamentals and proactive planning, shippers can remain resilient as the market continues to evolve in 2026 and beyond.
