@joelwuzhere Partially true but not quite the whole story. The simple fact is that wartech industry pay pittance compared to anything frontiertech and comes with a whole list of restrictions and absurd requirements. It makes little sense for a great engineer to work in that industry

I saw a post months ago about a Raytheon engineer who was complaining that they couldn’t fill hardware jobs. I thought they were lying, so I went to their LinkedIn. I expected to see 100’s of applications for every job, but I saw 3. That's when I realized that we’ve offshored the entire industry to China. Not defense, but all of the tertiary industries that would train people who would eventually work in defense. Training for defense does not happen in the defense industry. It happens in companies all across America. If you offshore those, you will eventually starve the defense industry of the manpower it needs. This isn’t the 50’s where people stayed at companies forever. People move. If they can’t get the same jobs elsewhere, especially smart people, they transition to the civilian roles that are available and we lose the talent we need. Once I noticed it, it was impossible to not see it, and it's happening across many sectors - from embedded systems to mechanical tooling. And now, the IT industry. It's almost identical to what happened to the construction industry in the 80's. My grandfather worked for $25/hr in California in the late 70's and early 80's. By the mid 90's, I was lucky to get $10. Congress isn't smart enough to notice the problem until it's too late. @SenMikeLee is a prime example of this. He pushed H1Bs for decades, and now that the damage is done, he's calling for a "pause." It's a slow unremitting, and inexorable disaster for the US, and I will shout it from the rooftops until somebody listens. Not that I ever expect anybody to listen. I don't think most people can even see it when it's explained to them.

It is not too late, the top weapon making companies in USA never replaced 50% of its engineers with Indian cheap workers because they need to keep the quality of their weapons. But if they used other company IT products which made by cheaper replaced 3rd world workers in future it will impact the quality of weapons.

This is why the collectivists keep on winning. It's not because they have a good arguments on their side. It's because they the "defenders" of capitalism come up with such absurd rebuttals that the collectivists win by default. No, the value is not "subjective" based on how "stuffed" you are. The value is absolute. A simpler (and arguably saner) argument would be a comparison of 8 hours of labor of someone digging with a spoon and 8 hours of labor of someone digging using a mechanized digger. The first one is putting more effort in but the value being produced is magnitude lesser. Where did the digger come from? The mind of someone who could envision and produce a machine that multiplied the bare effort done by muscles AND make it available for such laborer who could never dream of it. The machine is not a natural resource. It didn't grow organically and no amount of wishing or philosophizing about collective good would create it. Only a person who solely cared about saving their own time and multiplying their production can create it and did create it.

Remember kids, just because we model certain physical phenomenon using mathematics does not equate it to mathematics; it is still only a model, not the phenomenon itself nor does it fully represents all know physical properties of it.

one of the most euphoric discoveries in my life was the realization that language is a type of linear algebra (Word Embeddings) every dog is a vector in the "dog" vector space where each of the N components of the vector is a measurable value: hair color, weight, geometry, etc

@PhilOfLife_ Not really. It's because most of humans have betrayed themselves, prioritizing short-term goals over long-term ones

If you’re a guy in your early 20s, buy a tungsten cube Go into debt if you have to This is not satire. You can get a cube for 4 grand Having a dense cube communicates status to women and business relationships And if you buy it right it will hold its value if not appreciate

@JDHaltigan Marxist ideology is cancer. In a diseased body, it leads to treatment by more marxist ideology, not less, which inceidentally, leads to cancer tumor growing exponentially. And rince and repeat.

minimum wage reduces available jobs, effectively eliminating non-productive/training jobs and moves them offshore to a place where there is no minimum wage. The same offshore employees use this to get trained and grab high productive jobs, eliminiting more local jobs. When that is not an option, it is done using robotics. Marxists know this and do this to fool the normies. The normie needs to learn that it hurts them.

Six months ago today, I lost my best friend in this world. Thank you everyone who sent love and prayers to our family this first Christmas. Rhonda’s greatest legacy is our children and they all came home with their spouses and my grandson so we could be together on Christmas Eve.

10ish year off at a minimum from that happening for all "video models". For now, they can't differentiate between characters, have no spatial coherence and cannot go for more than 10 seconds before losing all context. Kinda like critial constructivists that you keep on talking about.

Getting tired of explaning such a simple thing to adults: TA and so many other starter jobs are training jobs. They help people learn how to eventually do real work, with very little actual productivity. What else would you want to AI? Toddler learning to walk? Babies learning to chew? Because AI can do a these so much better!!!!
alz@alz_zyd_

I'm a little annoyed by the discourse that we should block AI-TAs because it'd displace TA jobs. If the job of a TA can be done better by a machine, we should let a machine do it. It's exactly the same argument as the longshoremen

The subjective nonsense can only wins by default. They must make it sound as if all sides are subjective in order to have a leg to stand.
Bruce Pardy@PardyBruce

@finseraste Agreed! This is one of the ironies. Many liberals say that truth is objective, yet believe that individuals must be free to discern the truth for themselves. Woke critical theorists lean on pomo to justify state-mandated truth, yet "truth is subjective".
