@NailcoteHall @Keir_Starmer Business closure figures despite the raised NI contributions etc are relatively stable from previous years, the difference is that it is the national big companies that are going into administration and closing.

What is so difficult for @Keir_Starmer to understand ? The SME’s of the UK employ around 60% of working people and while the Govt increases Pay , NI and Business Rates their people see record Business Closures and Unemployment 20% higher & record numbers of young people out of work due to Employers being unable to afford them in the numbers they normally have ! This Govt was elected and promoted itself as Pro Business and prioritising Growth in our Economy and as soon as elected @RachelReevesMP embarked on Anti Growth , Anti Jobs policies crushing the spirit of our SME’s who could have delivered the Growth the Govt needed ! Now all we hear is about a Mandate for Change but there have been some very damaging changes and even now Keir & his Cabinet seem unable to recognise that their current top priority of dealing with the ‘cost of living’ crisis can only be successful by tackling the ‘costs of doing business’ crisis which they have created and which is inextricably linked to the cost of living crisis !! There is no business knowledge or acumen in this Govt & none is provided by Gordon Brown & Harriet Harman ! Realities & Practicalities need to be part of governing the WHOLE of the UK and recognising the beneficial contribution our SME’s & others make to achieve Economic success in the future ? Right now his ignorance is certainly not bliss !! @iromg @afneil @piersmorgan @edballs @bbclaurak @BethRigby @HouseofCommons @bhatti_saqib @CamillaTominey @Benleo @SkyNewsBiz @NickFerrariLBC @SophyRidgeSky @KemiBadenoch

@sheena_walker1 @SandyofSuffolk The thing people usually miss is that meat, fish etc that is sold at M&S and other supermarkets usually comes from the same factories, the exact same but different packaging.

Why is everything so expensive in this country? Just been into my local village butchers and bought 4 lamb chops. £14. That's double what they are in Aldi but they're twice the size of Aldi's so that's ok. But in my favourite restaurant in Los Gigantes, Tenerife, you can get 6 lamb chops, chips, salad and a carafe of wine for 13 euros. And they import the lamb from New Zealand too. Is it just because our energy costs, business rates and employment costs are so high or is there a lot of greedy profiteering going on here in the UK?

You missed the point of the fact that the UK imports the majority of its food and has for decades, there are currently high tariffs and extra administration costs placed upon the foods whilst the SPS agreement is in negotiation to reduce these costs, the costs are currently passed on to the customer at the till.

No one accepts that the ONS Statistics shows falling job vacancies outside of London and the South East, falling job vacancy numbers since the post covid recovery, welfare is not the issue job vacancies are, business uncertainty is not creating job vacancies for millions of people seeking work. Why does the Ministers or media recognise this fact?

Keir Starmer has chickened out of a second attempt to reform the out-of-control welfare system, for fear of irritating all the Labour MPs who are great enthusiasts for increased welfare spending. Welfare spending will rise by 5.8% this year to £330bn, equivalent to 10.9% of GDP & is forecast to hit £407bn in 2030. Completely unaffordable.

LABOUR CHAOS IS COSTING US BILLIONS Britain’s cost of borrowing is surging yet again thanks to Labour. Markets can see Starmer is weak, lurching left to placate his backbenchers, and could soon be replaced by rivals who want to borrow, tax and spend even more. (1/8)🧵

Its also funny that they increased every year from the post covid peek when people returned to work and have continued to do so (ONS statistics). Stating that it was only since the point the current government came to power before making any policy changes ignores the previous years and policy lag.

This as been a campaign against labour the day following their general election win in 2024 by the media, hitting them hard even before they moved into office, this bias was not seen within 14 years of the previous government, they have also supplied Farage and Reform UK with a platform by posting inaccurate information (opinion pieces) that drives public division and misinformation.

Out of curiosity, why is there so much pressure on Starmer to resign But no pressure on Nigel Farage who took a £5,000,000 gift from a foreign billionaire and coincidentally started calling for the very thing the foreign billionaire wants for the UK, crypto deregulation?

The issue is that people qualify as a journalist when they are young and want to be unbiased, give as many truths and facts as possible but the outlets that employ them are politically aligned one way or another, chase clicks and views as this drives their funding pipeline and are self regulated by the IPSO, if not self regulated. There is a new regulator that has very high editorial standards, "Impress", they cover small publishers (we have an application been processed with them), they also cover content creators such as YouTube as well, they demand more trust worthy publishers.

@uk_decoded @narindertweets @jdpoc Agree fully. Would be great if actual facts were simply disseminated rather than spin from one ideological outpost or another. The truth usually sits within the third option, somewhere between the two given narratives

@SteveRulesAll01 @Jacob_Rees_Mogg That is correct but lowering tariffs on our largest trade partner for food security is a good thing with the SPS agreement, lowering trade friction and administration costs that are passed on to the customer is also a good thing.

My argument is that ideally journalism and the media should be unbiased and factual at all times, giving a educational source for people to make an educated decision, instead of decisions based of little fact or evidence, and in some case none at all as things are now, that would be in an ideal world, but unfortunately we do not live in an ideal world.

The tri lateral agreement and intelligence sharing agreements has resulted in more people smugglers been arrested but they adapt quickly, they need to employ more people for the asylum application backlog and gain more returns agreements to make the turn around quicker, this is what should have been done over previous governments,

The key promises Labour made in 2024 were faster growth, no tax rises and smashing the gangs. The PM tore up these promises or failed to deliver which is why he and his party are now so unpopular.

The government inherited a shrinking job vacancy pool that started with the post covid peek when people went back to work, this is why the welfare bill is so high and unemployment has risen, millions of people fighting for work within a shrinking job vacancy pool but this will take years to fix, business certainty has to improve and with trade relations world wide and new agreements been signed, but it will take 2+ years for supply chains to adjust and the benefits will be seen with a new government in the next political cycle.

The UK already has a record tax burden, rising youth unemployment and a rapidly breaking rental market thanks to this socialist government. This loopy call to ‘double down’ on more state control and public spending is economically illiterate and would be a catastrophe for Britain.
Angela Rayner@AngelaRayner

Our party has suffered a historic defeat. Many good Labour colleagues have lost their seats despite working hard for those they represented. We have lost good Labour administrations and lost the chance for more. What we are doing isn’t working, and it needs to change. This may be our last chance. The Labour Party must now live up to our name: we must be the party of working people. We’ve heard the same on the doorstep as we’ve seen in the polls - the cost of living is the top issue for voters of all parties. People have turned to populists and nationalists because we have not done enough to fix it. Living standards are barely higher than they were a decade and a half ago. People feel hopeless - that the cost of living crisis will never end, and now they see oil and gas companies use global instability to post record profits. Once again, ordinary people are paying the price for decisions they didn’t make. It’s no wonder that across the UK, working people feel the system is rigged against them. Things can be so much better than this. Countries including Spain and Canada have shown that economies can grow and people can thrive when governments stay true to labour and social democratic values and put people first. We need to learn from that. In London, we lost young people who fear they will never afford a home. In my patch and across the north, we lost working people whose wages are too low and costs too high. In Scotland and Wales, people do not currently see Labour as the answer.  We are in danger of becoming a party of the well-off, not working people. The Peter Mandelson scandal showed a toxic culture of cronyism.  Decisions like cutting winter fuel allowance just weren’t what people expected from a Labour government. For too long, successive governments have allowed wealth and power to concentrate at the top without a plan to ensure the benefits of economic growth are shared fairly. The result is an economy that does not work for the majority, with wealth concentrated in too few hands. This level of inequality, alongside squeezed living standards, is the outcome of a model built on deregulation, privatisation, and trickle-down economics. But we have the chance to fix this.  1/2

Not forgeting that the Net Zero and policy taxation was introduced by a previous government but the continuation within the current government. The UK needs to move away from the marginal pricing system that is out of date for a modern energy system, build public owned offshore wind sites removes the need for some of the policy taxes etc at 40% of business and household bills been from marginal pricing and 10-15% been policy taxation bills could be drastically reduced.

U.K., which is better situated on the North Sea for purposes of energy than Norway, should, DRILL, BABY, DRILL!!!" "It is absolutely crazy that they don’t… AND, NO MORE WINDMILLS!" 🤣

This is true, well factual. More information, the offshore wind turbines once built require very little maintenance, if they had their own tariff and the government moved away from the Marginal Pricing system currently in place they would be the lowest generator of electricity, currently the marginal pricing system if around 40% of house hold bills and 10-15% is policy taxes, this saving would show that renewables are working but until a government makes this change, nothing will change.
