@madteam3 I can see that but not going on just one but rather two West Coast trips in less than a month is not ideal. Why not SF to LA and then home in one WC trip? Also, why do we need to play the Pirates and Cards right away vs. and NL East rival?
English

@ultramet I like getting the West Coast trips out of the way early, TBH
English

#Mets only play 3 games at home before going on the road including a West Coast trip. I literally am going to see the Mets in Sacramento and LA before Citifield. First time ever for me. Like we play no NL East teams until April 28– just over 1 month after opening day. Crazy.

@AlbaneseLaura Very well written and your resilience is uplifting Laura.

People sometimes ask if I actually love baseball. And yes, absolutely I do. But maybe not for the regular reasons. It gave me something to hold on to during a childhood of brief homelessness, isolation and abuse. I'll always be grateful. Happy Opening Day. newsday.com/sports/columni…

@metsbatflip1 @MBrownstein89 I hope he fares better than Kelvin. Kelvin made the team, bought a brand new Chevy Citation (I kid you not), and was sent back to AAA in May 1979. One huge advantage is at least Benge played AAA ball whereas Chapman did not,

Carson Benge will be the youngest starter to make his MLB debut on Opening Day for the Mets since Kelvin Chapman in 1979.

@JonHeyman @JohnFromAlbany Don’t know how Lovelady got the nod over him
English

@metsbatflip1 He also needs more confidence . He was rushed to show and put in must win situations because Senga, Manaea, and Peterson couldn’t perform down the stretch. No doubt that created some insecurities.

Anthony Dicomo on Jonah Tong’s development over the winter, plus areas that still need to be worked out/reworked:
“He had a rough spring, no doubt about it. So much of the damage came off Tong's fastball and cutter, which he'll need to command better if he wants to get ahead in counts and allow his changeup to be the devastating out pitch it was in the Minors. It's far, far too early to judge Tong, who still has so much potential. But there are clear areas he must improve, which for me begin with his fastball command.”

English

@acoustic567 @metsbatflip1 Agreed. Motion doesn’t lend itself to much movement. He may have thrown his fastball by A and AA minor leaguers but that’s not happening at higher levels of play. He needs change up and needs more FB command for sure.
English

@metsbatflip1 He needs an East-West pitch that he commands well. And it’s hard to do with that motion. I’m basically just channeling what Jerry Blevins said during the game yesterday.

@NYPost_Mets @JCBNYM8259 Where is my Marté at DH? Yup, a career .285 hitter is now rotting in KC.
English

@WillSammon Somehow I see the IL in his future. Given his recent velocity loss and disastrous 2025 season, the possibility of some sort of injury impacting performance is real (even if not publicly disclosed yet). Not saying this is definitely the case. It’s just suspicious and possible.

A few thoughts on the Mets' decision to open the season without Sean Manaea in their rotation: nytimes.com/athletic/71370…

That #Mets scouting staff was something else in the pre-Cohen era. At least we won this trade.

Jarred Kelenic will not make the 26-man roster to begin the 2026 season Spring Training stats (14 games): .179 AVG 2 HRs 5 RBIs 12 Ks / 5 BBs 3 XBHs
English

@WillSammon @LRubinsonWFAN His velo is down so it makes sense. We could really bounce back years from him and Senga
English

@FinkelsteinRyan Benge needs to hit the ball still with more power but has certainly earned a spot imo . Tauchman had an OPS over 1.000 which is great but not sustainable.
English

While l still think Carson Benge has earned his spot on Opening Day, if they decide he needs some time in Triple-A, this could be the Opening Day lineup.

Juan Soto is back in the lineup today as the Mets take on the Astros! ⏰️ 6:05pm 🏟 CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches

@SNY_Mets Most likely to be traded and come back and burn the Mets if this continues
English

@Mets Not gonna lie. This one stings and my dry eye is acting up again. What a legend. Godspeed in retirement Howie—simply one of the best! Now win it all for HOWIE!!

@PitcherList Finally learned how to pronounce “The Password”’s name correctly. Thanks.

Sounds like Alijah Vera-Tucker had no interest in staying with the Jets (via @MikeReiss). #Jets

English

@MaxTGoodman He hasn’t been a reliable MLB player except for a few months and postseason in 2024. League caught of with him fast and he made no adjustments to that. Mets have been trying to trade this guy for months. It seems that there are no takers.
English

After another 0-for-4 from Mark Vientos tonight, here's Carlos Mendoza on what he's seeing from him right now:
"He's just not getting results. Yesterday, 0-for-4 with two balls at 100 mph. First at-bat today, 105. I think he's in a good place, he just not getting results."
Max Goodman@MaxTGoodman
Mark Vientos is 1-for-17 (.059) in Grapefruit League action this spring. Mix in his WBC stint w/ Nicaragua and he's 3-for-32 (.093) so far in '26. Spoke with Vientos last night about those spring numbers and how he's feeling about his uncertain role: nj.com/mets/2026/03/w…
