BREAKING: FedEx driver who pleaded guilty to kidnapping and murdering 7-year-old Athena Strand, has been sentenced to death. Tanner Horner snatched Athena while he was delivering a Barbie doll to her home in Paradise, Texas. At one point during the trial, jurors broke down in tears while hearing audio of Horner killing Athena after he told her to take off her shirt and said she was "really pretty." Athena repeatedly asked for her mother before she was killed. "Horner is then heard asking Athena to remove her shirt, and there are several moments when she says "no" and asks for her mom. That was followed by repeated sounds of crying, screaming and banging," NBC reported last month. Following three hours of deliberation today, Horner was sentenced to death by lethal injection.

🚨 UGLY! $850 million to build the world’s most expensive concrete Lego block in Jackson Park. Chicago architecture deserved better. The South Side got this. This is peak Obama: all rhetoric, no beauty, massive bill. #ObamaPresidentialCenter

This. Is. Terrifying. This technology should NEVER be allowed to be used. Ford can fvck right off and so can the Congress members who voted to put this tech in vehicles starting in 2027.

Traces of Texas
Traces of Texas@TracesofTexas·
Traces of Texas reader Tom Abshire was nice enough to share this nifty photo of Chico's Tacos at 4232 Alameda Ave. in El Paso, Texas. This was taken in the 1950s but Chico's is still there. There are also a few other locations. Chicos was opened in 1950 by Joe Mora and his wife Emma. It is an institution in El Paso. They are most famous for their rolled tacos (which I've always called flautas but the call tacos) in a special tomato soup-like sauce. They are mighty tasty but my recommendation is to get them and eat them right away as they tend to get soggy. Chico's is so revered that, in 2017, when they changed the cheese on the afore-mentioned tacos, it was somewhat of a crisis for many locals: my friend Portia said she would never eat there again. She lasted about three months. It turned out that Chico's didn't WANT to change the cheese but their supplier had gone out of business, so they were forced to. Ironically, the new cheese is actually a higher quality than the old, but the old had become so associated with Chico's that people freaked out. Portia eats at Chico's every couple of weeks and says that, other than her family, if she ever leaves El Paso, it's Chico's she'll miss the most. Thanks, Tom. A nice trace of Texas, indeed!

Jon, I took a humorous jab at you. Lighten up. We take jabs at all kinds of people. When you're the critic expect to get criticized. It happens. Doesn't undermine my support of you. You rarely miss. You missed here. It happens. I find it humorous when people throw elaborate birthday parties for 1-year-olds. You acting like a baby here won't stop me from defending you when you're unfairly attacked or celebrating you when you hit the target.
Jon Root@JonnyRoot_

@jasonwhitlock Jason, this isn’t how friends should talk to each other, especially when it comes to their children… I can take honest feedback & criticism, but you should have kept this to yourself. You’ve turned a fun, innocent party into a controversy. You’re the one that “missed” here.

Dan Crenshaw is a former United States Navy SEAL Officer who served multiple combat deployments with SEAL Teams 1 and 3, where he was wounded by an improvised explosive device and lost his right eye. After retiring from Naval Special Warfare, he served as a US Representative from Texas, advocating for veterans and national security. In late 2025, he became involved in a highly publicized dispute with former SEAL and podcaster Shawn Ryan after Crenshaw’s legal team sent Ryan a demand letter alleging defamation over comments about Crenshaw’s personal finances. The situation escalated into a broader clash over media scrutiny, accountability, and the boundaries of public discourse among veterans and public figures. An interview was planned in early 2026 to address the conflict, but it was cancelled.
