OK, so this is as good a place as any to drop a point about "officer's" schools vs. "enlisted" schools. As a tanker I remember the controversy a few years back when there were open slots in the Master Gunner's and the suggestion was made to let some pre-company grade (and possibly company grade) officers audit the course. But(!) what if we set up an "exchange" program? IDK the equivalent of a master gunner in other MOS but let's start putting some E-7s and above in the war colleges and some officers in the Master Gunner's (or equivalent) course.

For you non midwesterners, there's a weird climate boundary right around Omaha, NE. Sure ND is gonna be colder than SD on average every Winter. But in the past I've literally driven from a snow-bound, leafless, Sioux Falls to an Omaha still firmly in Autumn, And it's only 180 mi (or three hour drive for normal people, not you bicoastal types 😝)

@Ami_Marisol I was a tanker. But my understanding always was that, while the majority of Army SOF are infantry, selection is open to all. The same is true for airborne even though we don't try to air drop (or LAPES) tanks any more.

IDK about that. I don't have a lot but some are meaningful, others are meaningless except as a memory (vs. ones that represent a larger accomplishments ). I received one this past weekend as part of a 3/35 Armor reunion that is quite important to me as it is an old one cast when our battalion was running early "slick 60s." So @mccainjack, maybe it's more a question of the award and why it's past along and should be further past along to others who will care for it until the next reunion. I tend to think it's pretty important, especially for a bunch of DATs. But I believe it to be the case that we are the only Army unit active or reserve to be running full reunions every year, split between East vs. West of the Mississippi.

Coming out of Iraq there was always a shakedown inspection at the APOD ("Aerial Port of Debarkation") for the troops who were leaving and headed home. The idea was to catch any illegal war trophies, ammo or other contraband.
On my way out the door, a female E-5 from the Signal battalion had ~$20,000 in small bills in her duffel bag.
Turns out she was personally running a one-woman brothel out of a port-a-potty.
There are more ways than one how port-a-potties in a combat zone get nasty.
