Have you ever told your child one of those small, harmless lies that parents tell when they cannot bear to see their kid sad? I came across a story about a dad who did exactly that, and then something quite unusual happened. His name is Chris Hurn, and back in 2012 his family spent a few days at a hotel called the Ritz-Carlton on Amelia Island, a quiet beach island in the American state of Florida. When they got home, his young son realised that his favourite stuffed giraffe, Joshie, was missing. Joshie was the kind of toy you cannot sleep without when you are a small child. To calm him down, Chris told him that Joshie was fine, he had just decided to stay a little longer at the hotel for an extended holiday. The boy accepted it and fell asleep. That same evening, the hotel called. They had found Joshie in the laundry. Chris, slightly embarrassed, explained the lie he had told his son and asked if, before they posted the giraffe back, the staff would maybe take one quick photo of Joshie on a pool chair so he could show his son. A few days later a package arrived. Inside was Joshie, some Ritz-Carlton branded goodies, and a binder. An actual binder. The staff had spent days photographing Joshie around the resort. There were pictures of him lounging by the pool wearing little sunglasses, getting a massage at the spa, driving a golf buggy on the beach, hanging out with other lost stuffed animals, and even sitting at the security desk in front of the camera monitors helping make sure nothing else got lost.
