The biggest fumble in business ever might be Philips spinning off ASML, TSMC and NXP
Philips co-founded ASML in 1984, then co-founded TSMC in 1987, then they founded NXP
They sold each of them for short term profits in the 2000s
ASML is now worth $545B
TSMC is worth $1.76T
NXP is worth $50B
Philips today is worth just $27B
If they'd never sold, Philips would be the largest company in the EU today, worth $650B
Philips CEO Cor Boonstra called it "making money with the success of the past"

@Emizerrich @alreadydawn Maybe you can spout propagandistic non sequiturs, all day, but you can't argue the point, because there is no argument against it.
So take your lame attempts at deflection back to whatever wumao taught them to you.
English

@Emizerrich @alreadydawn No, we can't, because nothing you've said even addresses the point.
The KMT was an often brutal dictatorship. They don't run Taiwan anymore (as much as your CCP friends wish they did) and they did not ever engage in wholesale destruction of Chinese culture as the CCP did.
English

@Emizerrich @alreadydawn My point was in the first post, dummy.
Efforts made? Why not skip the destruction in the first place so you don't need to rebuild fake ancient water towns to make tourist traps?
Do you need me to translate the CCP propaganda for you, or can you understand it for yourself?

English

@user73413 @alreadydawn And your point is? Hell, former Emperor Puyi became a comrade after release. A testament to the power and ultimate victory of the PRC. As for the rebuilding comment, it's partially true but you're just making sweeping statements. You've already admitted then the efforts made.
English

@Emizerrich @alreadydawn And those "brutal KMT" are now the CCP's best friends across the strait, so why don't you go check the narrative you've been sold.
English

@Emizerrich @alreadydawn No, it isn't. Almost all of those temples have been rebuilt (partially because it's custom, and partially because the Red Guards destroyed everything). There's very little of anything old left in China. The idiot radicals even tried to tear down the Forbidden City.

@DrewyMcDrewface He's such an obvious fucking huckster, I can't understand why anyone still drinks the Kool-Aid. But I guess that's why he's a billionaire and I'm not.

If you're wondering why your FSD still needs to be supervised, and robotaxis all have safety drivers, its cuz @elonmusk is hard at work making video game slop from 2007 and programing pre-teen girl body physics.
Just check his feed.

@eliasluoto @bunburyoudoujp You're not missing anything. It's a convenience store sandwich that tastes exactly as bland as you imagine it does.
Never trust a Brit when it comes to food.
English

@bunburyoudoujp i had a british guy RAVING about this exact sandwich somewhere in nagano. he was genuinely elated when describing how good of an egg sanwich it was.
i never tried it, so i can't say for certain i wouldn't have been the same.
English

@bunburyoudoujp I am absolutely convinced that you are correct.
Stupid influencers managed to turn the most bland, boring convenience store lunch item into some kind of coveted delicacy in the brains of a billion zombies.
And the sandwich sucks.
English

@SoveyX You could at least mention that these adorable girls are Lightsum. They need the exposure.

@stellachenyl @M1686193515388 You're painting half the world with that very broad brush, there, and you seem to know very little about the cultures you're speaking for.
English

@M1686193515388 Chinese who decide to westernize are not respected even by westerners.
Chinese who stay Chinese are respected.
English

@stellachenyl @CutAdriftFromOz @timanowski "Western traditional values are wholly based on religion[.]"
Nope. Go read some Greek and Roman philosophy, because you're as uneducated about western values as most westerners are about Chinese values.
English

An ethnic Chinese person who follows traditional values is more likely to be compatible with western traditional values because Chinese traditional values are actually stricter. Western traditional values are wholly based on religion so if the Christian or Jew stops practicing the religion they also stop having family values. Chinese Confucian value doesn't come from religion, Chinese internalize it as family discipline and common sense.
English

@CutAdriftFromOz @stellachenyl @timanowski Either is fine, as long as they're not Communists.
You're probably right about what most westerners prefer. But the other side of that coin is people trying to shame others for not clinging to cultural rituals they don't connect with (like OP).
English

@stellachenyl @timanowski i dont think that's right. i think westerners prefer an ethnically chinese person who assimilates, rather than holding themselves as something 'other'

I always had a high view of @elonmusk and his accomplishments...but lately, his hubristic arrogance is out of control...
Here, he's making fun of $GOOGL's expected $1.9 TRILLION investment in data centers over the next 10 years and claims that he expects to invest over $10 Trillion.
To put things in perspective, Elon's COMBINED $TSLA, SpaceX and xAI have:
- A total of less than $100 Billion in cash
- A total of ~$120 Billion in annual revenues
- A total net profit of ~$0 (estimate)
- Combined revenue of companies growing at single-digit %
In contrast, Google:
- Has $400 Billion in annual revenues
- Has over $100 Billion of net profit per year
- It's growing at ~15% annually
- And is a cash-generating machine
But ok, Google's numbers are "rookie numbers" while his imaginary spending of more than 1.4x the entire US annual budget is minimum required to be "trying."
