This a nice, respectful article with measured responses. But when it comes to this memorial design, I am neither respectful nor measured. The whole thing is a disrespectful abomination and they need to start over from scratch. Give us a war memorial that looks like a war memorial and not a dog park.

The GWOT Memorial—much like the war itself—is an ugly, purposeless monstrosity that appears to have been orchestrated by career bureaucrats in a Pentagon basement conference room. Planned by think-tank staffers, supervised by a committee of GS-15s and overpaid consultants, designed in PowerPoint to be as generic and inoffensive as possible. By resembling a pointless infinite loop, it’s the perfect metaphor for our forever wars. But our fallen heroes deserve far better.

In the days and weeks ahead, we’ll be sharing more about the initial design concept and meaning behind the GWOT Memorial. One of the most important questions is how we will honor the fallen. Watch to see how we will ensure every sacrifice is remembered and no one is left behind.
