When you make promises to customers based on best case scenarios “ready in as little as 30 minutes!”and don’t deliver on them or communicate delays, you are eroding trust in your brand. Yes, “as little as 30” includes “much more than 30”. Still a disappointing UX. @Walgreens

@cydharrell I personally like to let people be excited about things, especially when it leads to a desired outcome. Performative virtue shaming is a weird kind of bullying.

@kingofark It’s a role in high demand. You’re right, it’s entitled as hell, and it’s maybe not true if you can’t relocate- but as long as there’s a demand for skilled UX researchers, why not leverage it? Sellers’ market tactics apply.

Career advice for UX Researchers: you have LOTS of options. You don’t need to sell out and work for an employer who doesn’t share your values. If a company is actively harming the planet or community, tell the recruiter/HR partner you’re not a culture fit and move on.

@jmarshallBKLYN The thing is, even as a mentor, It’s Not About You. Encouragement and validation of their potential is great. Pushing someone forward who would rather prioritize their family or something other than career advancement means you’re not really hearing them or honoring their truth.

@jmarshallBKLYN It’s perfectly fine for people to want security in your career if that’s better for them or their families. Not everyone need to be on an growth path. And good managers will find new challenges and roles for people to grow into.
