Timothy Staples – EOW December 14, 2019 On December 14, 2019, Tim was actively searching a portion of Mt. Baldy for a lost hiker in adverse conditions as part of the West Valley Search and Rescue team. During the search, Tim slipped from the trail and suffered fatal injuries. Tim was a well-loved history teacher and cross-country coach at St. Lucy’s Priory High School, and later, Damien High School in La Verne. A graduate of Gonzaga University in Washington, Tim met his wife, Katie, while at Damien and married her in 2019.  Tim is survived by his new bride and his mother, Barbara.   Tim was a dedicated, well-experienced, 9-year member of the team, volunteering hundreds of hours for the citizens of San Bernardino County.  Please take a moment to remember Tim, as he gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving as a volunteer.  “So, others may live”.

On this Thanksgiving, I want to extend my gratitude to the many first responders and essential workers who continue serving our community today. While many of us gather with loved ones, these dedicated professionals step away from their own families to protect and support our community, care for pets in the shelter, save lives in our hospitals, and stay on watch to lend a helping hand. Thank you to Ventura County Fire, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Public Works crews, the Health Care Agency, Probation, Animal Services, and the incredible volunteers in Search and Rescue and other programs who are working or on standby today. Your dedication and selfless service are appreciated. Ventura County is the safest large county in California because of you. @VENTURASHERIFF @VCFD @VCPublicWorks @VCAnimalService @VCHCA @vcsar3 @VtaCoProbation

As I reflect on one year since the Mountain Fire, my heart is with the many residents who lost so much. Time has passed, but the weight of the fire still impacts many. The pain and loss remain real and are a heavy burden each day for those still rebuilding their lives. Over the past year, I have witnessed incredible resilience. Neighbors have lifted each other up, volunteers have given their time and hearts, and local organizations continue to help families recover. The strength, kindness, and determination shown across this community are what make Ventura County such a special place to call home. To those still navigating the long road of recovery, please know you are not alone. The County of Ventura remains here to support you—today and in the days ahead. As we look forward, may this moment serve as a reminder not only of what was lost, but also of what endures: compassion, community, and hope. The fire may have changed our landscape, but it did not change who we are—a community that stands together, rebuilds together, and cares deeply for one another. For recovery information and support please visit recovery.venturacounty.gov.

#SantaAnaWinds are bringing critical #FireWeather to portions of LA/Ventura Counties through Wed. Gusty winds, very low humidity will make extreme fire behavior likely with new fire starts. Use extreme caution with anything that can spark a wildfire. #CAwx
