@UKDispatchBox @David__Osland The immigrants are the only ones who will do the Deliveroo driving - to deliver food to the benefits people who use taxpayer funds to order Deliveroo.

@David__Osland Great! But how? Where is the money? Does this apply to every migrant that rocks up illegally? Plenty of well paid jobs for them as well?

Crazy leftist idea, I know. But how about getting people off benefits by offering them jobs that pay them enough to live on?

@David__Osland Sure we can make them do work to get the benefits like shovel snow for towns, cut grass for towns, paint lot lines, all kinds of miscellaneous things and if they don't do it no benefits. That's a great idea

@David__Osland How about paying people what they are worth. Not everyone has has the work ethic or intelligence required to get a high paid job. Most of the benefits people should be doing Deliveroo driving or pothole filling, that way we won’t need to import Indians.

@it_is_fareed @lukas_ohl The root cause of all this mad equivalence between “dinner ladies” and oil rig workers is the socialist system of welfare - stemming from the NHS. The NHS has been a far more effective way for communists to take over Britain than anything the KGB could ever have dreamed of.

What does this even mean? Someone who’s black or disabled can perform work of lower value and get paid the same as a result of a race/disability weighting adjustment by bureaucrat? Straightforwardly communism bizarrely disguised as obvious racism.
Claire Coutinho@ClaireCoutinho

🚨NEW: One of Keir Starmer's last acts will be a massive expansion of 'work of equal value' pay claims that are already bankrupting local councils to cover race too. All this will do is cost taxpayers and consumer more, and encourage divisive identity politics in the workplace.

@fynnvestor People are living longer than ever — the pension system was never designed to give free money to people for 30-40 years.

This is Exactly why you can’t rely on a state pension. The age just keeps increasing, by the time people like myself get there it won’t even be a thing anymore. It’s so important to build your own pension pot whether that’s through your ISA, LISA or SIPP. Anything is better than relying on the state pension. When will people learn the government don’t care about you. You can pay tax your whole working life for 40+ years and you won’t get rewarded for it in retirement. They’ll take your fuel allowance money away too and have you stacking shelves in Tesco once they’ve taken your pension away…

🚨 NEW: The Government is now set to raise the state pension age to 68 in 2037 - seven years earlier than originally planned

@BenGrahamUK The question is why you think the state or other taxpayers should pay you to “enjoy life” for 30 years after you stop contributing to society/economy. The idea of 30–40 year retirements is an anomaly of the 1950s and needs to end.

@laurence_hulse No need for means testing — responsible people will be punished. The state pension cannot be yet another handout to lazy alcoholic bums who spend all their (benefits) money on holidays to Ibiza and drugs

This is doing the rounds this week on socials. It may well be amazing to run cost wise but my god it’s awful. Monolithic, bland and quite frankly depressing. If you don’t think policy affects design then think again. Architecture should lift the soul not crush it.

Quietly snuck through as part of the renegotiated India trade deal, which comes into effect today: the social security (national insurance) exemption for qualifying Indian workers in the UK has been extended from three years to five.

Chamath @chamath says a million AI tokens costs $0.50 from China versus $56 from Anthropic, and that spread has to rationalize. "Let's say a "barrel of intelligence," which is a million tokens, okay? You can buy that barrel for $26 from Anthropic's really good model. You can buy it from OpenAI for $26. Anthropic's latest model costs you $56. Elon is selling you a barrel of intelligence for $1. Zuck is about to sell it to you for $1.50. Demis and Sundar are trying to sell it to you for $1. The Chinese will sell it to you for $0.50. So this rationalization has to happen. We have the same input that has this crazy cost." ____ Follow @firesidealpha for more daily highlights of key business and technology conversations.

@ContractorCalc How about we cut spending on benefits, pip, motability, and quangos (basically a benefit used by Oxbridge graduates) instead.

If the basic rate went from 20% to 25%, middle earners would contribute an extra £34.5bn to the Treasury. A 5% rise on the top 45% rate to 50p would raise £725m. Guess which group Labour will need to go after to raise the amounts they want.

@velociticity @BlokeOnWheels My mum suffered from such severe constipation that she was vomiting it. Plus it often appears alongside other conditions. I have 24 conditions. Which stat do you think they would release to the press

That wouldn't be normal constipation, they would have to have severe constipation, that can't just be treated with a few over-the-counter tablets. If that is the case, it must be absolutely horrible for them and I'm sure you wouldn't wish it on anybody.
Vel@velociticity

@InspGadgetBlogs Yes even people with “constipation” get PIP etc (as per ReformUK investigations a few months ago)

i propose we tax the rich aggressively. for far too long they have got away with paying little tax and extracting what is left of our society for themselves. pure gluttony. that is why anyone rich, i.e. above £40k a year, should pay 90%. sacrifice your own salary to help others.
