Three Takeaways from Montreal’s 6-5 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Brought to you by Snap Bar Sportif in Rigaud! 1- Cole Caufield Is Making His Case for Team USA Montreal’s premier finisher continues to rise to the moment — and his overall game keeps maturing. When the Canadiens fell behind 3–1 midway through the second period, it looked like the momentum was slipping away. Then Cole Caufield took over. His game-tying goal was one for the highlight reels — a flash of elite hand speed and finishing ability that reminded everyone he’s more than just a shooter. And just minutes later, he struck again with the go-ahead goal, even though they couldn't hold onto the lead. If Team USA is looking for another difference-maker ahead of the Olympics, Caufield is making a loud statement. He’s now tied for the league lead in goals — and proving he can produce in crucial moments against top competition. 2. The Third Line Delivers Yet Again It’s hockey’s oldest cliché, but it still holds true: when things aren’t clicking, simplify. Get pucks deep, establish a forecheck, and grind down the opponent. The line of Brendan Gallagher, Jake Evans, and Josh Anderson did exactly that — and it temporarily changed the game. Evans forced Darnell Nurse into a turnover, Anderson pounced for his first goal of the season, and from that moment, the ice tilted in Montreal’s favor. That line doesn’t just bring energy; it brings reliability and structure. Their north-south game has quietly become one of Martin St. Louis’ most dependable tools when the team needs a momentum shift. 3. Ivan Demidov Needs to Be More Selfish Ivan Demidov has been a revelation — one of Montreal’s most dynamic offensive players through the early part of the season. But even elite young talents have areas to refine. For Demidov, it’s simple: he needs to shoot more. He’s averaging less than a shot per game and too often passes up opportunities to test opposing goaltenders. It’s understandable — young players sometimes defer out of respect or caution — but a more assertive approach would make him even more unpredictable. His one-timers have shown flashes, but haven’t quite connected consistently. Still, the potential is undeniable. Demidov’s playmaking instincts are exceptional, but adding a more confident trigger could elevate him from a gifted prospect to a legitimate top-line threat. 4- Yes the officials were awful and it's a big reason they lost but that's not a takeaway though... It was fairly obvious to anyone watching. (Remember every RT and all engagements help)

Re: Asking students to pay for their education is the most idiotic thing any government can do. If you want to have a successful economy you need educated citizens. Pay for your citizens education: all of your citizens. Invest in your country. Don't be daft.

Just had a journalist ask me to explain "Liberation Day." I told him it's about liberating Americans from some of the cash in their wallets.

@StuCowan1 Time to shorten the bench. Go with your 9 best forwards and 5 D. Use the extras when you have a big lead. Every game is so IMPORTANT!!

My story on the Canadiens stinking the joint out in Philadelphia last night in 6-4 loss to the Flyers, but #Habs are still clinging to second wild-card playoff spot in Eastern Conference: montrealgazette.com/sports/hockey/…

@lori10habs Love the plan and process to build for future long term success. Just wish/hope they would bring the same energy, emotional effort they exhibited on Saturday to each and every game.. Is that so much to ask??

There is a huge shortage in skilled trades because the next generation is being pushed exclusively into careers that require a university education. They think it will make them more money, or simply they think that working with their hands makes them a second class citizen.

The Call Of The Wilde for @Global_Montreal in the loss versus the LA Kings is pretty harsh. Not sugar coating this at all. This is a disappointing start to the season. Not the results. They're okay. But the overall play. Give it a read, see if you agree. globalnews.ca/news/10815858/…
