What @hubertvlayer and the team @vlayer_xyz are building is truly special. And I personally believe that ZK is the future of how sensitive (incl. personal) information is going to be shared with digital services and AI agents. Can't wait for it to be available to everyone!

💥🤝 @atomico leads deeploi's $6.5m Seed round! 💻🔥 Imagine you're an office manager, or an HR lead in an SMB — and your boss suddenly tasks you with taking care of "IT". What does that even mean? Buying a few laptops? What's an MDM? Am I responsible for cybersecurity now? And of course: Have you tried turning it off and on again? 🤷‍♂️🚨 That's the life of accidental IT owners — and 60% of the 55,000 SMBs in Germany rely on a non-expert to lead the IT function. No wonder that this leads to frustrations, breaches, non-compliance, and to the feeling of being overwhelmed. ✌️🎁 deeploi is a comprehensive end-to-end IT Operating System, consolidating all expert point solution tools, and offering an experienced in-house helpdesk. Thinking from First Principles: This is how the IT domain should be run! 👨‍🔧🧑‍💻 Julian Lübke and Philipp Hoffmann met just over a year ago, and have been off to the races in spectacular fashion: The product is truly magical, and over 30 customers are saving money and time (and gaining peace of mind!) already. We're so happy to partner up! 🥨🇩🇪 Thanks to @Lisa_Sorg_ & Konstantin for the great work on this — and to @chrismeermi & @brueckner_max for spotting this one early! 🤫🫡 Publishing our investment thesis below

Some hard learned lessons from ~5 years looking at and sometimes investing in creator economy startups. Some more controversial than others. All to be taken with a pinch of salt. 1. Turning businesses into creators is a better model for startups than turning creators into businesses 2. In a creator-founded business, the creator can generate short term cash flow, but never enduring value 3. Creators purchase software like consumers, not like businesses. They do not give a monkey’s about optimising their workflows, faster financing or other B2B concerns 4. Creators will not recommend something to their audience unless you pay them, or they truly believe in it. They can only add fuel to a fire, not ignite it 5. Creators as customers have a long and painful sales cycle, far outweighing their purchasing power. Generally creators are terrible customers 6. Creative tools (incl distribution tools) are one of the only parts of creators’ software stack they will actually care about, spend money on and advocate for 7. Crypto and the creator economy made no sense. Creators do not want their products to have liquidity, because they don’t want fans to lose money 8. Monetising content is a lot harder than it sounds. Adult is the only area where this works at scale. Simps are the only true whales 9. Making AI creator clones work will be a lot harder than people think. Fans engage with creators for parasocial validation, and speaking to a robot does not give them that 10. Influencer marketing (B2C and B2B) is still in early innings, there is still a huge volume of marketing spend that will move from traditional brand advertising to influencer over the next decade 11. TikTok and short form social has created an authenticity gap between creators and fans. Highly-authentic newsletters and podcasts are filling this gap, and this bifurcation will continue to grow

Throwback to last August when we were travelling Europe, and I was making a monthly Infracost update vlog ... maybe I should bring these back. 12 videos a year isn't that hard, right?! (twitter cut the video because of upload limits)

VC value add will pivot from asking “What’s your AI strategy?” to asking “What’s your superconductor strategy?”
Andrew Côté@Andercot

First independent measurement of zero resistance in LK-99 A team of scientists from the Physics Department of Southeast University, a top university in Nanjing, China, have reported measuring 0 resistance in a sample of LK-99 they synthesized from scratch. Here is the video: - They measure 0 resistance at 110K (-163C) using the four-point probe method. 0 resistance at this high of a temperature at ambient pressure is a new discovery in materials science - They also claim a transition in and out of zero resistance state depending on a strongly applied magnetic field - a classic characteristic of superconductivity. - The sample they synthesized is reported to have much higher purity than the original Korean team of LKK - They note an interesting and abrupt drop in resistance, by several orders of magnitude, between ~300 and 220K (approx values from the graph). This is currently unexplained, but is in rough agreement with LKK - i.e., LKK may have been measuring this higher-temperature 'drop' which was two orders of magnitude. - They retain the claim that this is not absolute conclusive proof of superconductivity, but it is suggestive of very interesting electronic properties in this material. These results compare nicely with recent simulations out of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, University of Boulder Colorado, Shenyang National Laboratory, and TU Wien, all performed by high profile and established materials scientists. Those simulations have converged on LK-99 having the potential for superconductivity at high temperatures and ambient pressures due to the formation of flat energy bands when lead-apatite crystal is doped with copper. Notably, other doping metals may also achieve similar or better performance. Here is a summary of those simulations: x.com/andercot/statu…

Question 3 – are we going to have very cheap energy, palm-sized MRIs, and levitating cars soon? TLDR – I really hope so, but it looks unlikely.

Last week was one of those rare moments when my previous experience in materials science and low-temp physics actually turned out to be directly useful – the world has gone hyped about a potential discovery of room-temperature superconductivity in a material nicknamed LK-99.
