Watch out for folks pretending to be from the .org marketing team. @photomatt is an abusive egotistical, tyrant dictator and Automattic is explicitly designed to be exploitative in nature in the way it directly controls the WordPress product and community while using that control to fuel its own profits and Matt’s bank account first and everything else second. It does this so brilliantly under the purposefully confusing .com/.org where Matt gets to immediately pull off the lower 10% of the market for himself and the top 10% for himself through VIP. Back when Matt took the VC money he changed, the old Matt is dead and we must move on from him. The good news is AI will soon enough make everything he’s ever done obsolete. WordPress needs proper governance, needs to demand the assets of which are clearly its handed over to it and Automattic needs to be separated as the end all be all authority. Sadly none of this will happen as Matt explicitly sold his control over WordPress and it’s community to his VC investors. If I recall it’s explicitly mentioned in the pitch deck. The community needs to just stop putting this man on a pedestal, he forked some code and put a new name on it. He’s the creator of nothing.
