There was a time I viewed @tomascol as a venerable elder in the faith and was grateful for his ministry of recovering the historic theology of the particular baptists for the SBC. It's a cautionary tale that his credibility is completely shot due to his online presence.

@les_kendrick Well, predictably, “it’s her job man” is why she’s not insufferable and why French is the devil. lol
Enguerrand VII de Coucy@ingelramdecoucy

@TylerLeeConway I dunno what to tell you man, if you think she’s the only person who posts clips of her podcast to social media to promote it to a wider audience then I guess you can think that. I don’t really follow her or listen to her pod but this is just a weak dunk you’ve got going here

I do think it’s telling that David French goes on a show in good faith, knowing it’s going to be an interrogation session, and he posts nothing about it but this while Allie and her team post clip after clip of what they see as “gotcha” moments.

“[Empathy] can also blind us to reality and morality.” - Allie Stuckey on “toxic empathy” Pretty evident that if she is really going to fall for the “Trump genuinely just thought he was a doctor line”, then she’s absolutely blind to reality. I think she should read her own book
Allie Beth Stuckey@conservmillen

Some people angry at me in my replies for “defending” Trump have only in the last few months left the Trump Can Do No Wrong Club— a club I’ve never been a part of. I have been extremely consistent in my critique of Trump for 10 years: He’s better than the Democrat alternative, but he says and does things I don’t like. I wish he would have more self-control and discernment. I pray for him to turn to Christ and the wisdom that comes from that to infuse his speech and actions. I am also very thankful for how the Lord has used him to push policies that are good, right, and true. While I’ve never supported him in a primary, I remain so grateful he won and Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton did not. For me, Trump isn’t strong enough on life and marriage. I think his selection of Paula White is a dangerous error. I’ve articulated these things many times. This is a big reason I have never been considered “MAGA,” though I have voted for him 3 times and have encouraged others to do so. It’s interesting that some of those who have recently renounced their unconditional sycophancy of Trump have never joined me in opposing Trump on issues like taxpayer-funded IVF. Maybe that will change now? We will see. Yeah, I do think Trump is Trump and almost 80 and thus it’s quite possible he quickly posted a meme someone sent him without seeing its clear (to us) his Jesus imagery. That doesn’t make it right. But his excuse is plausible. Won’t apologize for that

@NeilShenvi Outside of a more fundamentalist or highly confessional school (where a strict statement of faith has a clear checklist) how could this even be a thing? Not everything has a category or trajectory.

Do seminaries keep track of their alumni's theological trajectories? If not, it's probably worth doing. It would likely prompt self-reflection about what is being taught, how it is being taught, and what dangers need to be pointed out more clearly.

@chadafrancis @amurch @PrestonSprinkle This is where I’d push back on the “dogma” comment. I think voices (especially) like Gupta and Bird’s are significant in this discussion, as they both started from a complimentarian position & have changed perspectives based on the text…

Here’s a fun exercise: at what age does it become biblically forbidden for a woman to teach a male? Make sure to not be “arbitrary” in your answer. 🙃 (Also make sure to account for Acts 18:24-26.)
Melissa the Hopeful🏠Homemaker@BiblicalBeauty

Jonny Ardavanis responding to the question of whether a woman can teach from the pulpit of a church under the authority of her elders on a Sunday morning: "Well, listen, the Bible either says women can preach, or they cannot...I would just encourage people, you and I are not allowed to make arbitrary decisions and say, 'You know what, we think she can teach under our authority once a month.' A woman may be preaching under the authority of her elders, but she is most definitely not preaching under the authority of the New Testament, nor the Holy Spirit who wrote it... You may be asking, 'Would I leave a church that has a woman preaching, even if under the authority of her elders?' Yes, I would. Yes, I would. I would ask the elders to reconsider their position. I would present to them Scripture. And you may be asking, 'Why? What's the consequence of this?' Well, the consequence of this is just, it's disobedience. It's in the Bible. What's the consequence? Weak churches. And when men don't lead, churches die. And when churches break down, the culture breaks down, and you're watching this in our world today. Like in the garden, when you overthrow God's design for the family and for the church, there are disastrous consequences."

@chadafrancis @amurch @PrestonSprinkle As a non-egalitarian, I’m grateful for tools like Nijay Gupta’s “Tell her story” & Michael Bird’s “A case for Gender Equality” in helping understand the text. That’s the goal = understanding the text in its original meaning, not within our traditions (Which I know u know)

@vinnieangelo @amurch That said, @PrestonSprinkle makes some solid, text-based arguments around Priscilla & Junia that I find more compelling. (He also goes the Phoebe route.) Rom 16 is a strong argument for women exercising significant public ldrship in the ch. But IMO that ≠ have to mean preaching

@chadafrancis @amurch @PrestonSprinkle E.g., the NPP is built on novel sociological findings from the DSS, giving us a MUCH clearer/closer look at 1st cent Judaism than Luther’s perspective does—which would’ve been a then novel theological conclusion—helping us w/ a better understanding of the NT writers’ message

@chadafrancis @amurch @PrestonSprinkle I usually agree that novel theological conclusions should be questioned. But to dismiss them as merely novel and not serious really shuts off a valuable hermeneutical tool, especially when we’re trying to engage in the exegetical process of reading an epistle…

@amurch @chadafrancis Curious your guys’ understanding of Phoebe and Rom 16? We know a ton about letter carriers in the ancient world. Her role would’ve certainly been to explain and expound on what Paul had written. Which means the first sermon on the book of Roman’s would’ve been given by a woman

@chadafrancis The prohibition must at the very least apply to the Sunday pulput as the body is gathered for worship. If it doesn't at least apply there, it doesn't apply anywhere. If you don't hold that Paul at least means that you have to make all sorts of arbitrary judgments on who/what, etc

Maybe, just maybe it has been a bad idea to suggest that one can faithfully be a Democrat and a Christian. Because then it sends the message that moral horrors like abortion aren’t that big of a deal. So maybe what TGC should do is stop running fawning profiles and interviews with Democratic operatives like Michael Wear and Justin Giboney.
The Gospel Coalition@TGC

Last year, a study found that the percentage of regular churchgoers identifying as pro-life plummeted from 63 percent (in 2023) to 43 percent (in 2025). But wait, it gets worse.

Went to church this morning expecting to finish our series on Joseph. Was so moved in worship we just kept with it. Celebrated communion together. Prayed for one another. Finished 10 minutes early and stayed late talking. Sometimes the setting is the sermon.
