Yesterday, I stood with my @NYCCouncil colleagues to address the growing impact of social media on young people and the urgent need to better protect children online. Protecting children’s safety and future must come before profit.

Background checks for those who are charged with the care of our city's children are essential — but when they take months, they delay hiring, keep classrooms closed, and leave families without care. Today the Committees on Health, Oversight & Investigation, and Subcommittee on Early Childhood Education are holding a joint oversight hearing on Child Care Program Background Checks — focused on what’s not working and how to fix it. Because child care should be safe and accessible

In yesterday’s hearing, we showed what a typical teenager’s TikTok and Instagram feed looks like— and that it’s 100% caused by the greed of social media companies.

The arrest of Council Member Ossė while fighting against deed theft and the eviction of his constituent was an unjustified and excessive use of force by the NYPD. He must be released from police custody immediately.
