@fitzr1189 Everyone will succumb to electric cars, but the discourse around energy will become even more annoying. Fundamentally, price formation for a unit of electricity in liberalized markets will become so foreign to the average person, that discourse will all be vibes based.

I am not an energy policy person so am pretty much immune to negative partisanship on that issue(though am prone to it on other issues)so it really resonates as very odd how people have very strong views on what energy source to use which is mostly based on ideological vibes.

Stanislava ⭐️@stanislava_star

A year or so ago, a ton of internal documents from the Bionicle team at Lego from 2001 to 2009 were leaked. Since they're all Europeans who speak English as a second language, they are hilarious.

@DirteeeMartini Oh no, this is the worst out of them all. We have the same platform and it sucks. Visually, performative, and intuitively. MVGO is way better. It's one of the best local transit apps in Germany.

A masterpiece of an April fool's joke. (Austria gets 90% of its electricity from renewables while managing a higher GDP share of industrial production than Germany. Zwentendorf is a museum today, a 1970s time capsule. Tu, felix Austria, right?)
Michael Martens@Andric1961

🚨BREAKING: Because of the oil price crisis and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Austria has decided to open its only nuclear power plant in Zwentendorf on the Danube, which was completed in 1978 but never connected to the grid due to a negative referendum the same year. ⬇️

@vtchakarova When France fell back on their maintenance and refuelling schedule in 2022, German newspapers wouldn’t shut up about it.

@BarneyFlames My impression from 2025 was that the most shit and dangerous bike lanes in Germant get 10 times more usage than those perfect segregated and wide lanes in Paris.

@devarbol lol, Poland also has a Covid restriction where they basically forbid non EU citizens to enter Poland over the land border with Kaliningrad. Will probably also last another 10+ years.

@leap_dog @Ichbins8 Oh it’s not like they didnt try to mess with France on the topic of Nuclear, like fighting on the EU level to not have hydrogen generated from nuclear to be classified as green. They seem to have calmed down since the energy crisis.

@Ichbins8 the big secret is that germany has managed to have its cake and eat it. surrounded by two very pro nuclear power countries on either side it gets to benefit from the steady import supply and not have to deal with the political issues of nuclear

I WAS JUST WRITING EXACTLY THAT! I used to be super pro-nuclear, and, yeah, ofc it can totally work for a country, but I mellowed out on it a lot. The whole "everlasting nuclear waste" thing is quite real, and the opinions of citizens of 20times less dense America questionable...
Latte tweet media
Ferdinand Lejeune@FerdinandLejeu3

@Ichbins8 nuclear is even more tricky since germany is very densely settled. a single disaster - which is only ever a bad war away, or, depending on your politics, a decade of austerity or DEI hiring - and millions of people will have leave the land their ancestors lived on for millennia.

@martinmbauer Renewables and electrification roll out are also slow and expensive for the exact same reasons, but since the scale of a single wind turbine or heat pump is small it doesn’t show up.

@martinmbauer The post is also such a self own? Like you’re a high level German politican and you basically just accept you can’t build critical infrastructure like public transportation on time and with reasonable costs? People vote for you to do something about it????

The chair of the German parliament’s Committee on Research, Technology and Space thinks nobody seriously believes Germany could build safe nuclear reactors at reasonable cost today Remarkable since Germany managed to built 19 safe nuclear power plants before losing that ability
Prof. Karl Lauterbach@Karl_Lauterbach

People who go on about 'Revolutionary' defeatism 100% don't realise the WWI analogies fail because you don't really have those kind of wars involving enormous Western casualties with mass mobilisation anymore. The actual human costs for the West are pretty small.

Alexander Schnurrbar@aschnurrbart
