For people who feel disconnected from friends and loved ones during quarantine: try a video chat where both sides cook the same dish (on the call) and then eat it together. So far, it's been the most effective activity for making you feel like you're in the same place.

We've stopped buying SaaS and and are moving everything to agents, skills and just-in-time apps. In some cases, we've canceled subscriptions altogether and saved $10k+/year in the process. Here's our early success stories 🧵

@danrichardsri @warpdotdev Yeah, sorry, our DNS registrar is having a partial outage. We're in touch with them and they're working on resolving it; no concrete ETA unfortunately.

@BoxyMusic @warpdotdev this appears to be a regional DNS issue; mind sharing (broadly) where you're located and your ISP? (to help us better understand scope of impact)

@nakedMCSE @theodorvaryag But that's not what you did, your use of "just" and "lol" in your initial response makes it clear that you weren't simply looking for an explanation, but were being a bit of a dick yourself.

@theodorvaryag That was why I asked the question in the first place - what is it useful for beyond syntactic sugar ? Then you went straight off on being a dick. lol nice.

@BDoma @warpdotdev mind sharing specifics about what looks wrong to you in that screenshot (other than the traffic light buttons, which is a KI and already being fixed)

Could you guys just start listening to the designers? It feels like somewhere in your organization a designer is fully being ignored. Spacing, alignment, margins, padding, white space: in just that little screen shot they are so off the mark. If you want high-quality craft, DM me. I'll fix warp to make it the most beautiful terminal product that exists. Warp is getting some key things right but you're leaving out details that someone obsessed with building the best product would catch

You said our terminal tabs could be better, and we listened. Tabs are now larger to fit more detail in the same space, and color contrast has been dramatically improved for colored tabs.

Introducing Oz: the platform to orchestrate agents in the cloud. Spin up hundreds of agents from your terminal, browser, the API, or your phone. Each agent gets a @docker environment to build, test, and write PRs. Come back from your lunch break to code that’s ready to merge.

@kyliebytes Did they get cut off because they were xAI employees or because they were using subscription plan API keys in non-Anthropic products? The implications of the two are very different.

Scoop: xAI staff had been using Anthropic’s models internally through Cursor—until Anthropic cut off the startup’s access this week. Here’s what xAI cofounder Tony Wu sent to staff on Wednesday according to a copy of the internal Slack message I viewed: “Hi team, I believe many of you have already discovered that anthropic models are not responding on cursor. According to cursor this is a new policy anthropic is enforcing for all its major competitors. This is a both bad and good news. We will get a hit on productivity, but it rly pushes us to develop our own coding product / models. We're at a time in which Al is now a critical technology for our own productivity. This coming year is rly going to be wildly exciting for all of us. The team is rapidly developing our own models / product. We will have something to share with everyone soon. In the meantime, you may still try all different kinds of models in grok build.” Anthropic declined to comment. A Cursor spokesperson directed me to Anthropic for comment. xAI did not respond to request for comment.

@bztree When I was at YouTube in 2019 and we migrated the entire serving stack from Python to C++, we used request-scoped arenas _extensively_. I wouldn't make such grand assumptions.

Unfortunate that an article about performance has a total of 6 lines dedicated to arenas, and no examples, suggesting they don't ever actually use them. There's no discussion of designing your program in an efficient way. This is just another example of Casey's Laundry List.
Jeff Dean@JeffDean

Performance Hints Over the years, my colleague Sanjay Ghemawat and I have done a fair bit of diving into performance tuning of various pieces of code. We wrote an internal Performance Hints document a couple of years ago as a way of identifying some general principles and we've recently published a version of it externally. We'd love any feedback you might have! Read the full doc at: abseil.io/fast/hints.html

@SollenbergerRC The Brown building where the shooting occurred is also where most physics classes are, so I think the commonality here is physics. Maybe that was a room where they had a class during the year they were a student.

So what did the VP of Brown Republicans (Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama) have in common with the other Brown student who was killed (MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a dual U.S.-Uzbek citizen in his first semester)? Maybe they were both random targets of a psychopath with a gun?

Well the MIT professor was also Portuguese, and he was 47 years old, and he seems to have had a personal connection to the shooter, overlapping with him at the same prestigious Portuguese physics program
Laura Loomer@LauraLoomer

I’d like to know what the VP of Brown Republicans, an MIT Professor of Nuclear Science, and a 48 year old Portuguese National have in common… None of this makes any sense aside from the fact that the shooter was an immigrant.

@timothymsylvia @Meta_BTC_ @BrownUniversity Brown college is 99% Democrat in a heavily Democrat area. The victim was one of the 20 Republicans at the college. The shooter shouted an Islamic phrase before killing the woman. The college, mayor and police department are protecting another of their Palestine terrorists.

@posedscaredcity @Tyriar @shellscape You're claiming this was a matter of being blasé about the quality or impact of the change, but provide no evidence. All I'm saying is that you never have a large group of people publicly (and especially directly) attacking and/or demeaning you for work you do.

@posedscaredcity @Tyriar @shellscape I agree, the pair of those issues is very unfortunate. They chose to trade a correctness issue for a performance one, which is not inherently unreasonable. We don't know if there were competing priorities at the time, they said they hadn't been aware of reports of the issue.

@posedscaredcity @Tyriar @shellscape I agree about accountability, but your examples feel over the top given that every operation system that runs VSCode ships with a built-in terminal. There's no lock-in here forcing you to use this. If this has really been such a pain, why didn't you use something else?

Ok I think he did write the original lines. The reality is as an engineer you are accountable. Like with that building in New York on stilts, even years later, it’s on you. At what point is it negligence? I can tell real human impact stories on how this bug literally prevented thousands of people from getting healthcare. How it feels to have an unstoppable torrent of usage during sev0, desperately trying to debug, having it mistakenly focus on terminal when you’re pasting a large text chunk and boom crashing the entire putty (related?). All these little things are pain and at the limit, can even cause death in time sensitive situations. For instance, if a software medical records goes down, every second it isn’t fixed, someone could literally be dying or some shit.
