Legal Rights Protection Forum has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India regarding the alleged circulation of politically motivated pamphlets during Sunday prayers in Tamil Nadu on 19 April 2026. As per material widely seen in circulation, the pamphlets, reportedly distributed in churches, contain structured political messaging, evaluation of parties, and appeals that may influence the voting behavior of a particular religious community. The content raises serious concerns under Sections 123(3) and 123(3A) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which prohibit appeals to voters on religious grounds and the promotion of communal divisions in connection with elections. The involvement of an FCRA-registered body receiving foreign contributions in the dissemination of such material necessitates scrutiny under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, particularly regarding the use of foreign funds for activities with political implications. An immediate inquiry, verification of authenticity, identification of responsible entities, and strict action as per law have been requested. Free and fair elections must remain free from religious mobilization and external funding influence. In the 'Civil and Military Gazette', dated May 30, 1934, a chilling report from Simla lays bare a case that feels uncomfortably familiar even today. The headline read: “Abducted Girl’s Story — Refusal to Embrace Islam.” According to the report: “After a tiff with her brother’s wife she went down a hill… Two Muslim washermen… caught hold of the girl and shut her up in a cellar.” What followed was even more harrowing: “The same night… they took her to a jungle… till 4 a.m., almost unconscious… She was taken… to a house past the Lakkar Bazar, where she vehemently objected to a proposal that she should embrace Islam.” This was not a case of strength against strength. This was a vulnerable, emotionally shattered girl—alone, distressed, and seeking momentary human sympathy. Yet, instead of protection, she became prey. The report further notes: “…being moved at night between the jungle and several houses until she was found in a heap of hay by some Hindus.” And significantly: “The two Muslim washermen were arrested…” During the investigation, a Muslim woman and a Muslim employee of a local printing press were also questioned by the police. This episode, nearly a century old, raises an uncomfortable question—was this merely an isolated crime, or does it point to something deeper that we have yet to fully understand? On Instagram, Rakesh shared that he purchased a pair of Birkenstock shoes from the brand's outlet at DLF Promenade, Delhi. He said he had been seeing the shoes frequently on his Instagram feed and decided to invest in them. The shoes are originally priced at Rs 13,990 (approximately Rs 14,000), but he got them at the discounted price of Rs 10,000. The shoes he purchased come with an additional sole made of PU and cork to absorb shock. However, six months later, he noticed that the stitching had begun to come apart. He visited the outlet to raise a complaint, but the brand allegedly stated, "This has a three‑month warranty. We are unable to help you." He further claimed that no apology or reassurance was offered, and that he was turned away without any resolution. Rakesh later took the shoes to a local cobbler, who repaired them within a few minutes. He then resumed using the pair. However, four months later, he noticed what appeared to be dust around the shoes. Upon closer inspection, he realised that the footbeds had literally disintegrated into dust. Replying to Rakesh's video, Birkenstock wrote, "We're really sorry to see this. Kindly check your inbox and share the requested details so we can look into this on priority." A user also commented on the entrepreneur's video and cautioned against buying from the brand in India. "They sell low quality here in India," the comment further read. A second said, "Must be a one-off case sir, not to disregard or trivialise your issue, but I have been using 2 pairs since the last 7-8 years…. No problem at all." "So at Rs 14,000, this is not premium-this is disposable. I later realised that this wasn't a one-off incident. There are similar complaints globally, and if this is on your wishlist, I would urge you to think twice. There are far better options available at this price point," Rakesh said, concluding.
