FIFA President Gianni Infantino released a statement Monday saying, “FIFA’s judicial bodies are independent” after facing criticism over the decision to lift the red card suspension for leading U.S. men's national team scorer Folarin Balogun following a phone call with President Trump.
Balogun was penalized for stepping on the right ankle of Tarik Muharemović of Bosnia and Herzegovina during last week's Wold Cup match. President Trump said he saw the play and then spoke to Infantino and asked for a review. Trump said he didn't tell Gianni what to do, and he didn't take credit for FIFA's reversal.
Belgium's soccer association says FIFA denied its appeal, allowing Balogun to play tonight. cbsnews.com/news/folarin-b…
