Presidency | Republic of Somaliland
After more than three decades of peaceful self-governance, constitutional order, and democratic practice, Somaliland has received its first formal international recognition as a sovereign and independent state. This development affirms an objective reality that has long existed. Somaliland meets the legal, political, and institutional criteria of statehood under international law. — H.E. REPUBLIC OF SOMALILAND
REPUBLIC OF SOMALILAND@RepOfSomaliland·
Did you know? Somaliland was the first East African country to gain independence—before regretfully joining Somalia. First & Early African Independence Dates: • Somaliland — June 26, 1960 • Madagascar — June 26, 1960 • Somalia — July 1, 1960 (inherited the UN seat originally granted to Somaliland) • Tanzania — Dec 9, 1961 • Rwanda — July 1, 1962 • Burundi — July 1, 1962 • Uganda — Oct 9, 1962 • Kenya — Dec 12, 1963 • Mauritius — March 12, 1968 • Comoros — July 6, 1975 • Seychelles — June 29, 1976 • Djibouti — June 27, 1977 • Eritrea — May 24, 1993 *Somalia never gained independence as a separate colonial state. It inherited—and still occupies—the UN seat originally granted to the independent State of Somaliland in June 1960, a status added without a lawful, ratified union and maintained through international inertia. Your Excellencies @DannyDanon @michaelgwaltz as the UN Security Council convenes its emergency session on this matter, The Republic of Somaliland respectfully encourage you both to reference these historical facts and Israel’/ US leadership in upholding realities on the ground while fostering regional peace. Thank you for your commitment to principled and fact-based diplomacy. 🧾Receipt.⬇️

Today's history in four tweets thread. To understand the magnitude of today’s events, we must look back to June 26, 1960: History isn’t just made; it is restored. #Somaliland #History #Diplomacy #Rerecognition. A thread 1/4

Another major world power is on the cusp of offering Somaliland recognition soon: INDIA. India is a maritime power with ambitions to vie for influence in strategic theatres in the Western Indian Ocean and the Red Sea. India is keen not to lose out to China, a strategic adversary. Somaliland offers India many commercial advantages with its Berbera port trade corridor, access to Horn's largest market - Ethiopia. PM Modi was in Addis this month to cement strategic relations. Indian policy think tanks and strategists have long been urging India to develop closer ties with Somaliland.

Benjamin Netanyahu - בנימין נתניהו
I announced today the official recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state. Together with Foreign Minister Sa'ar and the President of the Republic of Somaliland, we signed a joint and mutual declaration. This declaration is in the spirit of the Abraham Accords, signed at the initiative of President Trump. I congratulated the President of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdallah, and praised his leadership and commitment to promoting stability and peace. I invited the President to pay an official visit to Israel. The President thanked me for this historic declaration and expressed appreciation for my achievements in fighting terrorism and advancing regional peace. I thank Foreign Minister Sa’ar, the Head of Mossad David Barnea and the Mossad, for their contribution to today’s development, and I wish the people of Somaliland success, prosperity, and freedom. The State of Israel plans to immediately expand its relations with the Republic of Somaliland through extensive cooperation in the fields of agriculture, health, technology, and economy.

Visiting #Gorée Island in #Senegal was not only a journey of discovery into history: the horrific image of the "door of no return" is still etched in my memory. But I also discovered an incredibly simple art form with extraordinary results: #SandArt. #Thread (1/3)

I have tried to translate Dr. Rafaat Alareer's poem, “If I must die,” into Somali. This is an open form translation. “Haddii aan ifka dhaafo Geeridaydu adduunka Yididdiilo ha siiso, Qiso aan abid guurin Maqnaantaydu ha reebto!”

Any Somalilander close to Chambéry, the old Alpine town in southeast #France in the next 3-4 days, please shout out. May our flag fly at the top of the medieval Castle of the Dukes of Savoy and enjoy a warm welcome at the Fontaine des éléphants!
