What you expect when you tell your doctor you're going keto for your diabetes:
"Interesting, the evidence base is actually quite strong for that. Let's monitor your HbA1c in three months and reduce your metformin as the numbers come down."
What you get:
"That's quite extreme. Where are you getting your fibre? You'll need to be very careful about your saturated fat intake. I'd recommend speaking to a dietitian before making any drastic changes."
What the dietitian says:
"Make sure you're including plenty of wholegrains."
English

Doctor: "Your type 2 diabetes markers have completely normalised."
Patient: "Yes."
Doctor: "And you've lost 22 kilos."
Patient: "Yes."
Doctor: "The blood pressure medication..."
Patient: "I stopped taking it. Blood pressure is 118 over 76."
Doctor: "You stopped without telling me?"
Patient: "I told you I was going to change my diet."
Doctor: "I didn't think it would... I mean, type 2 is chronic."
Patient: "Apparently not always."
Doctor: "What did you actually do?"
Patient: "Removed sugar and seed oils. Ate meat. Walked."
Doctor: "That's it?"
Patient: "That's it."
Pause.
Doctor: "We're told it's a progressive condition."
Patient: "It progressed in the wrong direction for them."
He kept the file open a long time before he typed anything.

my grandfather (born 1888) was lucky enough to meet Dr Price and said he was a "transformative" person - luckily, I was raised by my mom with natural foods and holistic medicine until she gave in when I was a teen. But since I had the background, it was easy to go back to. Transformative is the correct word - in so many lives. Too bad we lost it - hope it's making a noticeable resurgence.....

In the 1930s, a dentist named Weston A. Price travelled the world studying traditional diets and the dental health of populations that had not yet adopted Western food.
He visited the Swiss alpine villagers (raw dairy, rye bread, occasional meat), the Gaelic fishermen of the Outer Hebrides (oats and seafood including fish organs and eggs), the Maasai (milk, blood, meat), the Inuit (seal, walrus, fish, virtually no plant food), and dozens of others.
What he found in every traditional population: broad facial structure, well-developed dental arches, near-absence of tooth decay, strong bones, robust physical development.
What he found in the same populations once Western flour and sugar arrived: narrowed dental arches, crowded teeth, cavities, reduced facial development in the next generation.
All the traditional diets he studied were rich in animal products. None of them were built on low-fat, high-grain principles.
The divergence happened at exactly the moment the Western food arrived.
Price called it "displacing foods of modern commerce."
His book was published in 1939.
We spent the next eighty years doing the opposite of what it recommended.

@TwylaHoney @simpyblessedoma @MaryBowdenMD @SNUpshaw same as the PhD "doctor".
yeah, technically......................
can you prescribe narcotics? that's the line in the sand.................
English

@simpyblessedoma @MaryBowdenMD @SNUpshaw My pet peeve RN, DNP (Doctorate Nurse Practitioner) calling self "Doctor". It misleads many patients. That is harmful to patients.

ALL cows have a poll. That's what the horns grow out of. If they don't have horns all you see is the POLL so that's what they call them. if they have horns, that's what you see so that's what you say. Some breeds have the horns bred out of them (polled herefords). They ALL have polls so it IS a little confusing.
English

@walker_farm When you say “polled” …..you mean born with no horns…..think I will google AI
