BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Segun Aina as JAMB Registrar President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure expires on July 31, 2026. The appointment was announced in a statement issued not long ago by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, Aina is a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with expertise in digital infrastructure, national examination systems and institutional reforms. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School. A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, gaining foundational experience in national admissions and data-driven institutional processes. These insights have shaped his ongoing contributions to examination reform and systems optimisation. With over 15 years of post-graduation experience, Professor Aina operates at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional transformation, advising federal and state governments on system design, digital transition, and operational reform. At 39, he became one of Nigeria's youngest Computer Engineering professors and will now make history as JAMB’s youngest registrar. Above all, he is one of us INSIDE ÒṢOGBO. Yesterday, my wife and I visited a venue for a big event she is planning and decorating for a High Chief in Egbaland. She was full of energy as we entered the hall. But the moment she stepped in, her countenance changed. She walked towards the front and suddenly froze for like 2mins. From where I was standing, on a call, I noticed she was completely still, which is unusual for her when she is in work mode. So I walked up to her. The moment I looked at her face, I saw tears rolling down her cheeks with her lips moving in a prayerful pattern. I asked her, “what is wrong.” She looked at me and said, “Jack, 12 years ago, I was inside this same hall as a server, packing and washing plates. Today, I am the event planner, and everyone here is answering to me.” I tried to hold back my own tears as I hugged her tightly to calm her down. But even while typing this tweet, I can still feel myself getting emotional. See, life truly does get better if you keep grinding. Don’t let your starting point hold you back. Never look down on humble beginnings. Never give up on yourself. One day, the same place that witnessed your struggle may also become the stage for your victory.

Her appointment follows the completion of the tenure of the immediate past Chancellor, Apostle Folorunso Alakija, whose service officially ended on March 18, 2026. This development was announced yesterday through a statement issued by the Governor's Spokesperson @iwogoke. In appreciation of her decade-long contribution to the institution, the Ọ̀ṣun State Government paid a courtesy and appreciation visit to Apostle Alakija on Friday, May 8, 2026. Governor Adeleke praised her remarkable impact on the university, describing her legacy as enduring and invaluable, particularly her donation of the multi-billion naira Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital to the university. Apostle Alakija served as Chancellor of the institution from 2016 to 2026. The newly appointed Chancellor, Mrs Victoria Adunola Samson, fondly referred to as Mama BOVAS, is the founder of the renowned BOVAS Oil and Gas Company. She is an indigene of Iree in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State and was born on December 5, 1949.
