Today in Brussels, the African Union met in extraordinary session after Israel’s recognition of a secessionist region in Somalia. Africa stood united: Somalia’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, and violations of international law cannot be accepted.

During difficult and critical times, IGAD Ambassadors through their engagement with Regional and Continental bodies, facilitate back channel diplomacy to manage new developments, and are often the first line of defense against miscommunication and misunderstanding. Their insights and advice from the ‘field’ to Leadership in their respective Capitals is critical in finding home-grown solutions to our common problems. We are grateful for their service, and thankful to the Wisdom and Patience of our Leadership, as we navigate together an increasingly complex Geopolitical Environment.

The 7th AU–EU Summit concluded this afternoon in Luanda, Angola. The Joint Declaration highlights the future direction of AU-EU partnership.

EU PSC and the AU PSC reaffirmed their strong commitment and support for Somalia’s political, economic and security transition as well as preserving Somalia's unity, territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty.

⚡️BREAKING: @_AfricanUnion Peace and Security Council endorsed #Djibouti, #Egypt, #Ethiopia, #Kenya, and #Uganda as the Troop-Contributing Countries (TCCs) for @aussom_, with a total deployment of nearly 12,000 personnel: Uganda with 4,500 troops, Ethiopia with 2,500, Kenya with 1,410, Djibouti with 1,520, and Egypt with 1,091. The council reaffirmed support for the #Somalia Operations Coordination Committee’s recent decisions, expressed concern over financial challenges affecting the mission’s effectiveness, and urged member states and partners to mobilize additional resources quickly. In a communiqué issued on Friday and seen by. @ArlaadiMnetwork following its meeting held on 29 April 2025, the council has strongly also exhorted on international allies to continue their support for the Federal Government of Somalia and AUSSOM in their ongoing efforts against AlQaeda—linked terror group #AlShabaab militants.
