Yes, it really works! #BiDi charging on @Tesla Model Y Received so many private messages as about our #V2X test with the model Y. *We carried out the test out of pure curiosity. Whether and how Tesla will release the feature is beyond our knowledge.* #tesla #v2g #v2h #wallbox

@kmartyn5 @Tesla @AmbiBox_GmbH @sidOS_io Hyundai, Cybertruck and all the others only doing #V2L via OBC. Means, supply a single device directly up to 3.7kW in Europe over a single plug or up to 11kW (I think) in US, depending on the plug. It is not intended to supply the house - No backup power.

To be clear, this is not the on board vehicle charger working in a bidirectional manner, like Hyundai, or Cybertruck. Rather just access to HVDC, and your box doing all the work. Not an easy low $ way to get 120 / 240 VAC from a Tesla, a feature I would love to see. Though it would be cool to be able to do vehicle to vehicle DCFC with a cable to help a stranded driver.

@async_func @chrisprice @Tesla @AmbiBox_GmbH The test we performed was with our own developed bidirectional DC Wallbox - so external DC to AC conversion. We didn’t used the OBC. I don’t think that Tesla will provide such a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) adapter, if.. maybe a fixed socket like in the Cybertruck.

@robfarago @AriannaChelsea1 @Tesla @AmbiBox_GmbH You‘re right, there was nothing changed or hacked on the car itself. It was done via CCS2. We used our own developed bidirectional DC Wallbox - a series product. So only the Tesla tests were a proof of concept. Other OEMs support us officially.

@AriannaChelsea1 @wasanderes @Tesla @AmbiBox_GmbH It's just a proof of concept and I'm pretty sure the Tesla firmware doesn't currently support DC discharging formally. The NACS connector DC charging communications protocol would likely be similar but slightly different.

5/6 🔈And of course there is the question: why doesn't Tesla itself enable #bidirectional charging? Answer: No idea. 🤷‍♂️ It's not because the vehicles can't do it. Nor do I believe that Tesla itself could not do it.

5/5 ..Rumor has it that the Powerwall 3 can be upgraded to discharge existing vehicles. @elonmusk I think you would do the Tesla fan community a big favor if #BiDi for #V2H and #V2G would also work officially soon.

4/5 ..Tesla could and probably will soon make its vehicles available to the energy market, if we are already able to easily discharge the Tesla with standard equipment, then Tesla should certainly be able to do that!
