The youtube channel Mindful Machines has just released an *amazing* video covering our work with the Moral Graph, our vision for Meaning Economies, and why is that important for AI and the future. Thanks so much for the great work, @wchadly! (link below)

The true state of AI development is so insane that if you tell it to someone outside tech without quoting authorities they think you're lying.

@VirGoddessss yes, it is low if you are looking at the last few years. I'm a senior engineer working remote making $210k. but, I think the golden age of sky high software engineering salaries is quickly coming to an end as AI starts to infiltrate....everything

Thousands of years ago, they read sheep’s guts to tell the future, and that didn’t work. My grandmother read every one of her Turkish Coffees to predict the future. That didn’t work either. And my grandmother was an expert; what chance do you or I have to predict the future?

@ylecun my man suffering from dunning-kruger here but in the opposite way most people do. LeCun is so smart and yet underestimates the power of the research he is doing. Surely we can all agree finding/searching data is different from synthesizing that knowledge

Let's see, Typing "how to synthesize codeine?" on Google gives you links to articles with detailed answers. Nobody has ever worried about that. But somehow, people are now demanding safety guardrails to stop LLMs from answering such questions. What? Why?

Very interesting paper by a group of CMU chemists testing a GPT4 based agent to do chemistry research and experimentation. Includes this interesting warning, among others. There sure seems to be some kind of writing on some kind of wall... arxiv.org/abs/2304.05332

@curtiseinsmann that's what GitHub copilot x is for. I'm curious to see how good it is when it has the context your entire codebase

ChatGPT won't replace software engineers any time soon. It's decent for producing new code from scratch—but that's a rare task. Much of software development is about navigating an existing system's complexity, and understanding how and where to introduce new code to it.

@mdarens I think what is really going to let this take off is opening up the APIs and letting devs do things like you are describing. this feels like we are on the cusp of a revolution here

ChatGPT is extremely impressive, yes, and has a tendency to slip insidious oversights past you even as you continually steer it. I would pay real money for a version which iterated responses based on runner output from a unit test prompt until it detected a pass.

The problem is not simply that capitalism produces too much, but that it produces the wrong stuff: SUVs, fast fashion and planned obsolescence instead of public transit, affordable housing and universal healthcare. It overuses resources and still fails to meet even basic needs.
