@john_mcguirk I'm not sure it is as soft as it appears, rather that they have some kind of counter-balance for the chassis which acts against the uplift on the other side. (I don't know btw, hot take)

I think the present government has destroyed the relationship between the public and the Garda Síochána for good, Having a late lunch in a resturant and four members of the guards walked in three males and a woman. Suddenly the place went quiet, they were seated, Other customers and staff looking at them. Their order was taken and shortly after the owner or manager went and asked them very politely to leave the premises as they were not welcome, that their presence was upsetting other customers and would they inform their colleagues they are not welcome either, As they walked out the door tail between their legs people clapped and cheered it was surreal.

@SenatorMcDowell @DavQuinn Respectfully you didn’t really answer- as you answered in the negative. It’s my suspicion that this has never really been tested

A parade is lawful as long as it is lawful. But every citizen has a right to use the public thoroughfare in accordance with road traffic law. There is no constitutional right for some citizens to deprive other citizens of that right as a protest by illegally parking vehicles on the roador mounting blockades. Eco protestors have no right to stage sit ins on Luas lines or motorways as an environmental protest. If everyone had a constitutional right to deprive everyone else of the right of movement, we would have chaos.

@SenatorMcDowell @DavQuinn As a follow on.. what defines peaceful protest in law? Can the blockade of a road be defined, or argued in court to be defined - as a peaceful protest?

@SenatorMcDowell @DavQuinn But is not peaceful protest enshrined in constitution and therefore superseding criminal law? I’m not being smart here. Genuine question

@SenatorMcDowell @DavQuinn Senator. Respectfully , you are also a barrister so this is a genuine question. If a protest is and remains fully peaceful, at what point does said protest become criminal, similarly what is the legal definition of peaceful, per court precedent,

@ciarannugent Sir - I invite you to my home where I will pour you a beer and feed you. And you are welcome to peruse my payslips while I explain my rationale for any aspiring professional to be mad to domicile in Ireland. Name your day.

A worker on €120,000 pays an effective rate of 38% income tax A worker on €70,000 pays effective rate of 28.5% In 2024, about 80% of workers earned less than 70k (it's probably around 75% of workers today)
Ruary martin@RuaryMartin

@ciarannugent People are paying 52% tax on income over 44k Ciaran. This means for every additional hour they work the state rather than the worker is paid for 30 minutes of it. The Irish taxpayer is subsidising out of control spending.

@thomasjralph @RuaidhriOC To be fair. The level of detail that is emerging today, was not available last night. So it’s not really a matter of “on the face of it” anymore. That said… the ‘Johnny Tightlips’ approach to the detail does no favours to anyone

@JeremyClarkson Mr Clarkson. I was there a few weeks ago- drove from the west of Ireland. We had a pint the Friday night, breakfast the Saturday morning- and dinner that night in Paris. You run an exceptional ship. Thank you

@LarryPDonnelly @Anna1595625 Larry, is it possible that you frequent more knobby places than the proletariat- and these said places are displaying a faux humility - in an attempt to be “connected to the ordinary man” I have only ever seen it once in Dunnes

Geopolitical debate aside, fact is that corned beef and cabbage is a very popular carvery dinner in Ireland - I have it most Sundays at Wicklow Golf Club, not a Yank tourist stronghold - and corned beef is available in most supermarkets and butchers. Nonsense to say otherwise.

@spencerlewin @ted_tl @koshercockney @Sarahjdublin Corned beef and cabbage?? The "Irish staple?" What planet are you on? Never, ever, and I mean, NEVER have I seen anyone eat that, nor have I seen it on a menu, anywhere here!

@saloreilly Well you said it. There is a strong rumor that crews were deployed to Cork at the expense of Connacht with the express intent of sorting cork before the rest. I have that from multiple ESB staff, but wonder can an Taoiseach confirm?

@White_Chapel0 @declanganley Read what I said, and chill. Once the mains power goes- any installed battery or solar systems can be used without a gateway/isolation switch - that is for good reason. However such switches are prohibited when drawing a grant. I just love keyboard warriors who know it all.

@wests_awake @declanganley I don't know where you're getting your information from, but neither the ESB networks nor the SEAI documents for domestic solar microgeneration prohibit the installation of backup battery systems once they comply with the relevant standards. Claiming otherwise is misleading.

They are saying power won’t be resorted to my area in County Galway until the 5th of February. There are people in the cold because they have listened to thundering morons telling them they can’t cut and burn turf. There are houses built now in rural Ireland with no solid fuel burning ability & that need electrical power to operate all sorts of systems. Before I ever hear an Irish politician talking about reducing availability of cheap liquid or solid fuels again, (plus the things that operate with them), they should be forced to spend from now to February 5th in a modern house without power in my area. See notice below.

@White_Chapel0 @declanganley Not SEAI - it’s ESB. You *could* install a switch covertly- but if you were inspected for the grant you were screwballed

@wests_awake @declanganley What specific regulations do you claim prevents this? There is nothing in the SEAI Solar Code of Practice that prevents the use of solar & battery as a backup power supply.

@fearmiotail @declanganley Nope. Gateway or isolator required. Both of which would render a failure of a grant inspection. They also limited what can export to grid recently to 5kwh (inverter capacity) Many systems generate far more. Eg I have 10kwh panels

@GCraughwell @Dept_Transport Senator, is it possible that the rumour is true, that the reason the smaller chopper was selected over the Sikorsky was owing to the fact it can land on the children’s hospital roof where the S-92 is too heavy?

@allbelowutd @CarlowWeather No, in this case it’s not. Look at the map. Galway city is nearly 60 miles from the Atlantic coast. People see the bay and think Atlantic, when it actually isn’t.
