i just feel like this app isn’t nuanced enough to discuss why a man born in 1914, who was arrested in 1946 for a “homosexual act”, may have advised a fellow actor to stay quiet on gay rights. i think people villainizing him need to get a grip

@benmaritz @brucef Do you know about the Downtown Ambassadors program? This is mostly property tax driven and could be expanded through a local sales tax. Expanding the possible roles/ functions of public safety labor seems like a promising model imho

@benmaritz Thank you for correcting me on the rent point - I live in Belltown, have heard different stories about operating costs from folks that run restaurants/ shops in the neighborhood.
So if it’s not rent, and the city has such generous incentives, what gives?

@wigglewithmirth Retail rents are absurdly low, and often free with city support. Asking rents downtown are maybe a half of Bellevue. Rent is not the problem.

The monster who hurled a rock at Lani, the endangered monk seal in Maui, is 37-year-old Igor Lytvynchuk from Seattle. After being confronted the sicko replied: “I don't care, I'm rich, fine me. I can pay for it.” He has since been detained, but has yet to be charged as the case was referred to federal investigators. He must be held accountable. Anyone who would assault and harm an endangered animal like Lani is a danger to the entire planet and belongs behind bars. And for all those wondering, Lani is ok! A marine biologist went to check on her and she is going to make a full recovery.
