The disinformation about “good paying union jobs” and “cheap, clean energy” from the offshore wind industry’s cheerleaders like the Oceanic Network ring hollow. We know that NGOs, union leaders and some politicians would stop shilling for the foreign fossil fuel companies and foreign workers building inefficient, unreliable and wildly expensive offshore wind facilities once they stop getting funding to do so. Vineyard Wind has “gone into hiding” Nantucket Select Board member Brooke Mohr said at today’s press conference. Mohr said the offshore wind developer has failed to live up to its agreement with the town in three areas: communications, the aircraft detection lighting system, and a disaster response plan. It is sending a list of 15 specific demands to Vineyard Wind and giving the company two weeks to respond. Still, the town remains a party to the “Good Neighbor Agreement” with Vineyard Wind. Today would have been my dad’s 74th birthday. This season carries gravity. Father’s Day, his birthday, and the anniversary of his passing all fall within 60 days. For me, grief has no straight path. It revisits, reshapes, and rises when I least expect it. But alongside it lives a legacy built on generosity and kindness. He made people feel seen.
