@PAHoyeck When we were studying Quine, metaphysics/ontology was defined by our lecturer as the what there is/what we say there is.

@OBEhizele @commontruth_ Surely the opposite: it's a political programme before it's an account of reality. And it doesn't sit above it, as it doesn't believe in any, as Thomas Nagel would've put it, "view from nowhere".

@commontruth_ Postmodernism sits above politics. It is an account of reality before it is a political programme. That is why it has come to shape parts of both the left and the right. The politics differ; the underlying assumptions about truth, identity and power increasingly do not.

If we want to save the West, a good intellectual and cultural starting point would be the total rejection of postmodern thought. The idea that everything must be deconstructed, that beauty and exceptionalism are power structures to be dismantled, is insidious. Equality is a myth. There are no equal humans and no equal cultures. There is the best and the worst. The West has been infiltrated by the idea that it is moral to lower ourselves to meet the worst in a self-defeating pursuit of an equality that can never exist. Pride in ourselves, our skills and our achievements has become negatively coded. This has seeped into art, politics and culture, fostering a permanent sense of guilt and deserved decline. The modern West is the product of self-imposed enshittification. Postmodernism is the root of that cancer.

its kind of wild that multiple fields of art somehow fall to collective creative delusion that making things look crap is actually sophisticated. This is also what happened with Architecture.

Love love love this! @Fly_Norwegian and @British_Airways made a friendly wager that which ever country lost the 🇳🇴 vs. 🇬🇧 World Cup match, would have to use the other airline’s logo. England won. And Norwegian Air’s instagram logo is now:

The English fans need a better melody than "Wonderwall" by Oasis to sing after a win, especially when saluting Jude Bellingham for scoring both goals. Isn't there a finer English tune to sing? Ideally, one with "Jude" in the title? Oh, well, I'm drawing a blank on what to sing.

Marie Claire actually left a prompt from an AI in one of their recent articles. While there’s still some great journalists and publications left, this is utterly shocking. No wonder I’m trying to pivot.

Can you imagine being an Irish monk illuminating manuscripts on a soggy little island and all of a sudden a few dozen of these guys show up on boats that look like dragons? Must’ve been awful.

The Kafka museum in Prague should have one of those cutout things where you stick your face in a hole and it makes you look like a giant bug, but you’re not allowed to take a photo unless you filled out the paperwork at the beginning of the tour, which they don’t tell you
