It's 1985 and I've just started work. My first month's salary was £160.
I worked shifts in a freight office in Dover. A few months later I passed my driving test and bought a cheap car for a few hundred pounds. I put some money to one side and went on holiday for a week. I'd occasionally buy games for my ZX Spectrum and go to the pub with my mates, to have a good night with just £20.
Then, one day, I left my job and got another one. It paid more and now I worked regular office hours. I upgraded my car and went on holiday again.
Exciting times. Carefree times. And I've only got 2 'O' Levels - grade D!
I'm glad to have been part of that era, for it was the best. I wouldn't want to be young today, and looking for a job.
And what we had then is gone for good.
English

@HullTeslaModel3 @YesterdaysBrit1 Mine was 1984, gave them £100 pw all in !
English

@YesterdaysBrit1 First job May 1986.
Salary £153 per month.
Gave my Mam £10 a week for board.
Bought a house in 1993.
Multiple holidays every year.
Money was very tight though, careful budgeting made for a decent life on a modest income.

@SirLesPatt2 Notice there is 52 pages, where did you get the handbook ?
English

@Maxcabbi @BeLuckyCabbie They are good nitrates, not eaten cured meats , hams or sausages for years, avocados may be a better option with the eggs ,
.
English

@windymint1 @BeLuckyCabbie There’s a school of thought that If you’re taking vitamin C regularly, then nitrates shouldn’t be a problem. Also many vegetables have nitrates. 😄
