Among my hottest takes are: - Disney adults (esp with no kids) are ruining it for families by inflating the cost of everything. - Disney adults should seek therapy to deal with childhood issues, not more trips to Disneyland. - Disney should not cater to Disney adults. It’s for families. It’s for the kids.
The New Yorker@NewYorker

For the most devoted fans, Disney has engineered an ecosystem of financial entanglement that goes far deeper than park tickets or merchandise, which keeps the magic—and the debt—perpetually compounding. In 2023, Ashley, a freshman at Quinnipiac University, in Connecticut, had $15,000 in her bank account. Excited by her newfound freedom as a college student, she decided to start going on solo trips. Walt Disney World, in Orlando, Florida, seemed like an obvious choice. She went during her winter break. Then she returned, six times, in two years. Soon enough, her account balance had dwindled to just five dollars. Perhaps unsurprisingly, many adults who have accumulated Disney debt seem to be chasing a feeling from their childhoods. One woman, who has been to Disney World more than a hundred times, said that visiting the parks takes her back to a time when she had fewer worries: “It’s the nostalgic feeling of what brought you joy when you were little and you didn’t have the stressors of adult life.” Read more about the Disney adults putting themselves in debt for the pursuit of magic: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/_JqtFg

Kentucky Derby Day is one of the rare opportunities we still have to gain new customers, and this creates a terrible impression for those not already familiar with the downsides of betting on our sport. We certainly know how to push them away!

What we just saw in the late betting by CAW'S is what the every day players continues to experience. It's disgusting and thievery-but it won't change that's for sure. But to do it on the biggest days of racing is the CAW's way (or maybe the Japanese sent it on their own CAW platform) or basically sticking it to every player who is sick and tired of this nonsense. But the industry could not care less. Enough said.

Boston’s cutting teachers and running deficits, but don’t worry, there’s still money for “wellness grants” and block parties. Mayor Wu can’t explain where the money’s going, but she’s definitely spending it. bostonherald.com/2026/04/21/edi…

Boston's Hampus Lindholm steps up at his blue line to gain possession of a loose puck while David Pastrnak collides with a BUF player at center ice. This opens the passing lane from Linholm to Pavel Zacha. Zacha & Pastrnak break in 2 on 1. Zacha sends a saucer pass to 88.

Boston goal! Scored by David Pastrnak with 18:06 remaining in the 2nd period. Assisted by Pavel Zacha and Hampus Lindholm. Boston: 1 Buffalo: 2 #BUFvsBOS #NHLBruins #LetsGoBuffalo

@smclaughlin9 Steeves hasn’t been great tonight but Hagens is not a 3rd line player. They need that line to be heavy and win board battles. Would have been ballsy but I would have thought about Hagens instead of Mittelstadt.

Maybe, maybe not. I would've played him in Game 5. I would've played him tonight. But let's not pretend Hagens brought "a lot" in the three games he did play. Steeves and Eyssimont have been fine- nothing more, nothing less. They created a scoring chance that period.
Jonathan Berthold@j_bertho

@smclaughlin9 Hagens would have brought a lot more than Eyssimont & Steeves.

@BruinsCapSpace That was bad he has to shoot that. Whole team loves that back pass to no one though, take a bad angle shot and create mayhem, that’s how you score in the playoffs.

I was there at 10 years old flat and I remember it vividly. I was at the end that Chicago shot at in the third. It was just a complete blur. You were like ah fuck alright let’s get ready for overtime and then before you could remotely settle into that, it was 3-2. Then before you could begin to comprehend that it was in fact 3-2, it was over. I also forced my dad to stay and watch the cup since I figured we’d prob never see it lifted again. So that was cool, albeit devastating.

Boston asked big tech 3rd party food delivery companies to use mopeds in 2022. We never had drivers cutting between cars @ red lights, so many deliveries running stop signs & the wrong way on one-way streets & sidewalks. Moped food delivery facilitates speed over safety. #bospoli

@YIMBYLAND I bet there’s a shit ton less public pools and block parties then when I was a kid. I know the swim club I grew up going to closed decades ago. But my kids still play pick up sports, though baseball is a lot to ask. Plenty of wiffleball, basketball and street hockey though.

The most extinct thing in the entire movie isn’t the public pools, the country fair, or block parties. Those all still exist. It’s the idea of kids playing baseball just for fun. No trophies, no tournament, no parents, just play. Travel sports has ruined a generation of kids.
Dr Taylor Marshall™️@TaylorRMarshall

I'm watching the film “Sandlot” with our kids and just realized that the film’s version of America with baseball, public pools, county fair, block parties, etc is almost extinct.

It’s bad to send your kids to private school, it’s bad to send them to gifted and talented programs, it’s bad to donate to the PTA. It’s still okay to read to your children, but maybe not? The ones who emerge morally unblemished, of course, are non-parents who spend on travel, dining out, political hobbyism, etc. The project to anathematize intergenerational altruism won’t change the behavior of parents, but it will drive exit and further polarization.
