CTV has no issue with Mark Carney taxpayer-funded trip to the Vatican—because he’s a “practicing Catholic.” Official excuse? “Connecting with leaders” ahead of the G7. Got it. I want to hear from Canadians: Is this an acceptable use of YOUR money?

@raghu_venugopal well, as long as we have one ( a King ), while in name only, it is nice to have him mention us positively. And all the LT. Governors! Harmless tradition is not a bad thing in and of itself. We have bigger fish to fry.

A sovereign Canada doesn't need a King whether from England or the U.S. In our awakening of national pride it's time to rid the British monarchy over us. We are a nation of our own, not a colony nor hoping for royal favour on our side. We are the North. cbc.ca/news/world/kin…

@alandrummond2 My daughter waited 4 days in emergency at St. Joe's before being moved upstairs. Conditions were deplorable & the care was the worst that I have ever seen.

BOEBERT: "Implant aborted baby parts into lab animals? Have you heard of that sort of research?" GOODMAN: "Yeah. We did an analysis a few years ago showing that over 90% of experiments using human fetal tissue and putting them in animals were funded by Fauci's NIAID." 🎥 @laurenboebert @JustinRGoodman @WhiteCoatWaste @NancyMace

With Canadian's reaction of "buy Canadian", in 30 days we will see the balance of trade deficit increase (giving Trump the excuse of more "subsidizing" (really USA consuming continued necessary import of raw goods) So expect cycle to continue unless he gets distracted by EU

What concrete behavioral changes from Canada and Mexico did Trumps threat of tariffs produce? The reporting is confusing. Please post good links.

A Mother’s Legacy: Strength, Sovereignty, and What It Means to Be Free My beautiful mother was taken from us by the cruel and undeserved hand of COVID-19. Her departure, a result of a pandemic that indiscriminately stole lives, left us with unbearable heartbreak. The confirmation that the virus was leaked from a lab is a truth almost too heavy to bear. How do we make sense of it? How do we confront the enormity of lives lost, tied to decisions shaped by power, economics, and politics? The truth is, we may never make sense of it. What carries me forward is the extraordinary person my mother was and the seeds of strength and resilience she planted in us. She taught us that true sovereignty—the freedom to live and dream—rests not in power or wealth but in people and the values they uphold. My mother chose Canada. She chose it for us because she believed it was the best place in the world. As a divorced woman with four children, she saw Canada as a land of safety, opportunity, and hope. For her, it wasn’t just a new beginning; it was a place where she could be safe and independent and build a future that allowed her children to thrive. As Canada navigates its challenges and provocations with our trusted ally and neighbour to the south, I reflect on the deeper meaning of sovereignty. It’s about more than borders or money. True sovereignty is about people—the freedom to dream, thrive, and live with dignity. My mother embodied that belief. She didn’t just see Canada as a refuge; she saw it as a place to build something better, to live with grace and purpose, and to contribute to a nation filled with possibility. This photo of her was taken at the old Simpsons department store, where we had family pictures taken. It reminds me of the ordinary moments that now feel so precious. I remember how, after the photo, we’d have lunch at the dining hall at the top of the tower, walk across the bridge to Eaton Centre, take the street care to Kensington Market, and then take the subway and bus back home. Those simple days carried the weight of her dreams for us—those of someone who sincerely believed in the future. We all carry heartbreaks too big to name. But her life reminds me of what truly endures: the lessons she taught, the love she gave, and the strength she instilled in those who knew her. There isn’t a day that goes by when she isn’t with me. Her wisdom, resilience, and unwavering belief in the promise of a better world continue to guide me. Like many others, I had to say goodbye to her over Zoom. The experience was devastating and surreal, a harsh reminder of the distance this pandemic forced between us and the people we love most. Yet, even in those final moments, her strength shone through—a strength that inspires me today. Reflecting on her life, I am reminded that what matters most isn’t money or politics—it’s the people we choose to be and the lives we build. Sovereignty isn’t a commodity to trade; it’s a responsibility. It’s about honouring the freedoms and opportunities we’ve been given by leaving the world better for those who come after us. My mother’s legacy wasn’t just for our family. It’s a testament to what Canada represents: a land of hope and possibility, built not on perfection but on the courage to face its imperfections with determination and grace. Her story reminds us that what makes us genuinely free isn’t just where we live—it’s how we live with one another.

While as a scholar of international law I have to conclude on the available evidence that Israel’s conduct in Gaza is, as a legal matter, genocide, as a matter of morality, the perverted gratuitous murder & destruction by the IDF, killing for the hell of it, slaughtering children for a lark, has an extreme moral baseness not fully captured even by the legal language of genocide.
