A Scottish audio company, famous for their turntables, once invented a CPU architecture. Their internal software kind of sucked. Somehow along the way, the company became convinced that the problem was not from their programmers being bad. No, instead the (logical) conclusion was that all traditional Von Neumann-style computers were WRONG. Linn (the audio group) needed to develop their own design, which became known as the Rekursiv. Honestly, if you can get past the insanity it’s actually quite admirable. The whitepaper is clearly written by some (very) stubborn engineers; it’s like the opposite of RISC, no visible memory addresses, everything’s an object, auto GC, etc. Oh, and they wrote their own programming language to go with it, of course (Lingo).

@ID_AA_Carmack Surely printing logic circuits on wafers is the harder to solve bottleneck than making high quality wafers?

Current state of the art silicon processes are optimized for maximum performance per wafer, but if the world is going to be wafer constrained, I wonder if designs could be changed to use fewer layers or otherwise modified to increase wafers-per-year at some cost of compute-per-wafer, netting out positive for compute-per-year.

@Beneliciousss @jacobmparis There is an easy way to check - the Alibaba page for this model (but not the AliExpress page) has a video where they uncap a marker and the VOC number goes up, but so does the CO2 number. If you uncap a marker and place it by the sensor and the CO2 number goes up, it's faking it.

I spent $200 on this thing and even with the windows shut my house won’t go over 800 overnight with two people It’s so annoying here I was hoping CO2 was The One Thing Holding Me Back and I could fix it and all my problems would go away

@Beneliciousss @jacobmparis That's not a real CO2 sensor. It measures VOCs and estimates CO2 from that, and can be wildly inaccurate. The "NDIR" in the description is a lie. The sensor component alone in the Aranet4 costs $50.

@mrjeffu I noticed something in ur post that I couldn't overlook, so may I? The article uses the term "国難" So, translating it as "national disaster" or "national crisis" is more accurate. Ur use of "national ruin" was automatically translated as "traitor/国賊" resulting in a distortion
